This is the End by the Doors, Always relate this song to the movie Apocalypse Now. I think the movie open with this song. Always wondered what Morrison was thinking when he wrote this It was a strange song that grew on me.

Janis Ian Society Child – A song of inter racial releation. Back in the sixties.

Hey Jung, Good topic, there will be a lot of entries. Here a few for now. Will be back.
Also anything that was played on protest songs, racial relations, Vietnam and drugs on FM radio was pretty much banned on AM radio. There is a ton of music that pertains.

Little Feet – Don’t Bogart that Joint. Must be a drug song. Yea pass that thing over this way.

Yes, even the Monkees had a song banned! The record company refused to include this song on one of their albums until Micky Dolenz toned down the lyrics a little.

Hey, Jung, yes, I’m very familiar with Northern Exposure and I remember that episode. Chris was always good for challenging deep thinking. Remember when he flung the piano?
By the way, the “Stairway to Heaven” ban is mostly a joke attributed to the movie “Wayne’s World”. I say “mostly” because, apparently some Music stores do ban guitar players from playing that riff (or just give them dirty looks).

Hey Lynn. Yeah that was a great episode flinging the piano. I’m glad he flung the piano and not the cow. They had some great writers in that show, all the episodes were so well done and always touched upon something about humanity, relationships or culture, I always got something out it. I still pop in the DVD and watch them sometimes. The little town they filmed it all is about 90 minutes east of Seattle, Roslyn WA, and I visited the town in 2012. The set was still there, and even got to go have lunch at Hollings Bar, The Brick (they serve great nachos).
I found a picture from when I visited there in 2012. Anyone who’s seen the show should be familiar with that radio station set.

Wow David,
Never heard this song by the Monkees. I see why it would be banned back then. It’s a lighter version of the Doors This is the End. Interesting. I like it. Did Mickey Dolenz write this too?

I love this song! I first heard it on the TV show “The Greatest American Hero”, along with Elton John’s Rocket Man.

Yes, Joe, Micky wrote it. He didn’t write many songs, but this one was a doozy. A less incendiary version ended up on their album The Monkees Present.

Did anyone notice that the BeeGees wrote Don’t Bogart That Joint ?
That’s hard to believe. Look at the credits below in that video by Little Feat.
I could win bets.
