Sharing Youtube Videos Across the Pond
Posted by Tom Fones on 21/10/2023 at 23:48Some time ago i tried to share a youtube video of Sarah MacLachlan with Juergen in Bonn, DE.
He said he was not able to view it because it was “not available in your country”.
Just now i tried to share this documentary about Greenwich Village with the Twins in the
Volcano thread.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYBnGmXgB1E
Lisa said she got the same thing.
Does anyone know how to get around this?
Thanks in advance.

It ‘s probably because of copyright/distribution laws and stuff from Canada, or whatever country that’s not allowing said video links to be made available outside Cabada or USA but same can be said for in Europe, etc to where I can’t always be able to view stuff because of ban, etc …
Also note that currently on Facebook, etc, Canadians Can’t access news anymore … they gave to go to their local or country ‘s major news apps to be able to access stuff …..

Jacki is right, and there’s no easy way around it. The way around is to use third-party software capable of recording YouTube videos and then send the file itself or post it to a shared space such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or an FTP server. Note that this is also technically illegal, so I didn’t say to do it…I just said that’s the way around it. 😀

Jacki, Roger, thank you both.
Legality aside – i only have DSL for internet access where i am.
So my upload speed is something like 120KB/sec.
I remember a 42 hr. upload of a 20GB file to dropbox.
(Using dropbox because Google and AWS would hang up on me after 20 hrs or so.)
I wish we could solve this somehow.
Cheers

Hi Tom,
it’s like Jacki and Roger say: the whole thing seems to have something to do with copyright. Videos that are shown on YouTube in the US cannot always be viewed here in Europe (and vice versa). Also your new link. Although I can read the title “Greenwich Village: Music That Defined A Generation | Full Documentary Movie | Susan Sarandon,” the full video is not available. I copied only the title and entered it into the Google search function. I then receive short excerpts from the documentation, but the entire documentation is still not available. Someone seems to have film rights that don’t allow us to see this documentary. Similar to the country codes on DVDs or Blurays.
P.S. Why don’t you invite Mona and Lisa to your home for a coffee and Wiener Sacher Torte? Then you can watch the video together and talk nicely about it directly. 😃

When they make it over here i will connect with them somehow.
Thanks Juergen

Have you, the viewer, tried setting your VPN to a different country? Select the country the link was copied from.
“If you negotiate the minefield in the drive
And beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes
And if you make it past the shotguns in the hall, dial the combination, open the priest-hole, and if I’m in I’ll tell you what’s behind the wall”

I don’t know where that passage is from. Star Wars or The Tolkien books.
VPN as in Virtual Private Network?
Thanks

Those are lyrics to Pink Floyd “The Final Cut”. Seemed appropriate. Yes, VPN stands for virtual private network. It will mask your IP address. Your antivirus software might include one. If not, there are many VPN apps available for download.
