Some of the most beautiful songs come from a broken heart
Posted by Diana Geertsen on 25/02/2022 at 04:52I would love to hear some of your ideas. After watching the Pet Sounds WOTT, I fell in love with Caroline, No all over again

Diana, I’ve found by trial and error that it usually posts the video rather than the link if you copy and paste the URL in two separate pieces.

The beach Boys having a good day + Timothy Schmit

I wholeheartedly agree. i actually posted this same video under the WOTT discussion. I guess great minds think alike. I was really touched by how pleased the Beach Boys were with this rendition

Hi David, this song is unfortunately blocked in Germany. Which would it have been?
-
Sorry about that, Juergen. It’s Tears on My Pillow, by Little Anthony and the Imperials.
-
Yes, Juergen, I suppose it is! That doo-wop thread has elevated those songs to the top of my brain.
-
When I hear this kind of music David, I always have to think of the movie „Back to the Future“: Earth Angel. Beautiful nostalgic music. Is the original song actually by “The Penguins” ?
-
Yes, Juergen, that one was originally by the Penguins.
When I was in graduate school in the late 1980’s I was lucky enough to catch a concert on campus featuring the Penguins, the Coasters, and the Drifters, minus a few members who had either died or retired. As I exited the building after the show, I was stunned to see all the performers in the lobby standing behind tables from which they were selling their own merchandise.

Excellent choices David. Thanks for joining in on the discussion and again helping me with my posting issue.

Autumn Leaves is also one of my favorites. I have a rendition by Eva Cassidy and an unusual one by David Sikabwe (his channel is called Going Spaceward). This kid is popular

You should also check out his ‘Fly Me to the Moon’

Can’t help it. I keep thinking of good songs.

And on the lighter side of heartbreak…

Supposedly Al wrote this one after an actual breakup with his girlfriend.

Hi Diana, a very beautiful and somehow sad song. I’ve heard this song so many times in my life, but never knew what band it was from until I looked it up now. I always find it amazing how many songs you know without sometimes knowing who the performer is.

I was just drifting down memory lane and thinking of broken hearts and I ended up here: I was 18 or 19 and she was my second great love in my life. Her name was Silke and I will always remember her with this song. How things turned out for me you can probably imagine. Have you ever thought about how your life would have turned out if some things had ended out differently?

Jurgen,
Thanks for your reply and comments about teenage heartache. I remember Gavin, my high school love. It was magic and we planned to get married. Like a shooting star it was amazing, but wasn’t meant to last. I remember listening to Quarterflash (Harden my Heart) during the break up
-
With me it was unrequited love, Diana. With you it was a broken dream. Very sad.

Of course, we have to include a few MLT songs:
