As long as we’re Crying in the rain…
Oh hell, David stole my contribution.
Well as long as it gets included. Thanks.
That’s Albert Lee on lead guitar in that reunion concert.
Cheers

Tom,
Here’s a sad song about rain. I don’t know if Elvis was crying though.
-
Believe it or not i saw Eddie Rabbit ‘cover this Elvis hit up at Lake Tahoe many years ago. I was only there because Poco was the warmup act.
Did Eddie Rabbit also write and perform “I Love a Rainy Night” or am i having a senior moment ?
-
Hello Tom,
Yes, Eddie wrote “I Love a Rainy Night”. So sad that he died way too young. This is one of my favorite Eddie Rabbitt songs. I didn’t know he wrote “Kentucky Rain” WOW

Now you have to hurry up here, Tom. David just hit a Home Run 🙂
Thanks for the song “Crying in the rain”, David. I knew it only as a cover version. I think the topic of rain and songs would be worth its own topic.

I’m still on my first cup of coffee out here.
You guys flooded my email inbox overnight.
Great choices everyone.
Jung, that Chopin piece always made me think of doom, like someone going to the gallows. The Rose is hauntingly beautiful.
Juergen once again do you EVER sleep.
Cheers.

Tom, I hope you don’t think that I should take myself back for a while. Otherwise: look around in the world: MLT-Forum and music is a nice distraction.
-
uergen,
your posts are always good.
You just seem to be up 24 hours a day. I don’t know how you do it.
Cheers

Hi Tom. With regards to the Chopin piece, I felt the same way, never got past the first minute of the song as it felt too gloom and doom, but at 2:30, man the heavens open up! That is why I find it so remarkable. You think you’re going to the gallows, but it takes you somewhere else much more beautiful.

When I first started listening to music from this era I noticed how many songs made reference to tears, and the ability of rain to hide them. Those connections are still alive and well in my head, and this is the first opportunity I’ve had to take advantage of this otherwise useless knowledge.
A Lover’s Concerto is a dangerous song. Sometimes I sing it to myself and never know when to stop, so I keep raising the key a half step with each verse, until after half an hour I’m ultrasonic.

Yes, there are some songs that once they get stuck in your brain, don’t want to leave.
David you are right, only now I realize how many songs from that time are about tears and rain that washes them away. Washing away all worries and pains. A beautiful metaphor. Almost ritualistic.
-
Juergen,
i thought of The Temps “I wish it would rain” and there you go.
I wonder if Smokey wrote that one.
They say great minds think alike but that doesn’t explain my thinking.
Cheers.

At the risk of repeating myself, I find it fascinating how many songs there are that you’ve heard at some point and don’t know who released them. 96 Tears is an example of this.

Hi Tom, don’t be angry about my reply, but sometimes I don’t really understand some comments here. I am not a native speaker after all.
A little time jump and a really sad song
-
Juergen,
your english seems flawless to me.
I am the one who doesn’t communicate well sometimes.
-
Jurgen,
I concur. You are intelligent and soulful. It is certainly evident by your amazing command of the English language.

Hi Jurgen. Tears In Heaven is a really hauntingly beautiful song. Eric Clapton wrote it after the tragic death of his infant son who fell out of a high rise window. You can feel the real life emotions when Eric Clapton sings it, it is so incredibly powerful. I love MLTs version from their 2007 live album too.
What he says is beautiful, his gratitude for the time he had with his son.

I posted this one before, but I think it belongs here too. A really beautiful song.
