Hi everyone, here’s one for you,

For a future Pub Quiz [if we ever have such a thing again!!] I am trying to come up with a question along the lines of Only Connect’s What Came Fourth ? I want a pop track with Spring in the title, as I could offer the following clues and challenge contestants to try to work out the 4th clue in the sequence. What I was hoping to put up was ‘?’ [something with Spring in the title], ‘Mungo Jerry’ [as in In the Summertime], ‘Justin Hayward’ [ as in Forever Autumn’ from War of the Worlds] and the mystery 4th clue could be ‘David Essex’ [as in Only a Winter’s Tale] but I’m stuck on Spring. Any one in MLT Club land able to help?

    Hi Andrew,

You’re welcome i thought of that one but can’t think of any others although reckon there should be one or two more out there.

Wow, this is a toughie!  You’d think, given the association of spring with new life and hope and so on, that there would be a lot of songs in this category, but nothing “springs” to mind.

The guy in the green shirt is Gary Crosby (Bing’s son).

Wow!  I wonder if any of today’s chart-topping pop groups could possibly learn to sing like this, even if you gave them a massive incentive to try.

This kind of vocal talent is very few and far in between these days.  Brian has incredible vocals and Carl too with the highs, and then Al, Mike, and Dennis are spread in the lower and mid ranges nicely so together they can harmonize so magically.

Good one, Jacki.  Springing to mind. 🙂  I am stumped, too.  Even tried an on-line search engine and sprung a leak.

My Dad jokes are awful aren’t they?

I’m with you in that same boat that has sprung a leak, JP.  Here’s how desperate I am:

Did you watch The Electric Company when you were a kid?  There was a skit and song called “Springing from a Sponge”, in which Luis Avalos (who can’t sing) was dressed up as a mouse and jumping up and down on a sponge next to a kitchen sink.

That’s the only example I can come up with, and of course it’s a completely different meaning of the word spring.  Mercifully, it doesn’t seem to be on YouTube.

I watched The Electric Company, but I do not remember “Springing from a Sponge”.  I do remember Morgan Freeman, Bill Cosby and um Rita Moreno were on that show.  Wasn’t it like the next step after Sesame Street?

Correct on all counts, JP.  I loved that show.  Long story, but I once actually got to speak on the phone with the guy that Morgan Freeman is speaking with on the phone in that clip.

I just found that the song “Trying to Live in a Trumpet”, with that same mouse character, is on YouTube.
