Great (and timely) topic, Jung! Of course there are a vast number of Beach Boys songs that fit the bill here. There are also songs that make me think summer thoughts simply because they refuse to allow me to do otherwise, such as this one:

Then there’s the more subtle approach. This one works because it makes me worry that summer may be a little TOO nice:

I love that song, Diana! Thanks for uploading the video; it’s the first time I’ve ever SEEN the group.

I just read about them on Wikipedia, and learned that if it hadn’t been for a scheduling conflict, their lead singer would have been on board the plane that crashed and killed Ricky Nelson in 1985.

Wow!! I didn’t know that. Very interesting. I’ve just always been in love with this song as well as your choice ‘See you in September”. They just don’t make songs like that anymore. I’m having so much fun chatting with MLT fans. Hope to talk soon

Diana, a couple of golden gems I haven’t heard before! That first one, Spiral Staircase…, great singer, really uplifting. The River is Wide also great vocals too.
David, I haven’t heard See you In September for ages, what a great tune and awesome harmonies. DooWop at it’s best. And that first one, hard not to feel the summer spirit.
Wow, Jacki, awesome extensive list. I think will make a great summer playlist. Cruel Summer – Bananarama was one of my fave girl bands in the 80s.
    Thanks everyone!

Have to borrow this from from Jacki’s list.

    Jackie made a killer list.
    I don’t think i could add anything.
I forgot about Boys of Summer by Don Henley.
That would have been near my top.

Another song about another guy who can’t wait for autumn.
Until after the boys of summer have gone.

And the hell froze over and he and his 1st band went soaring again.

    I still miss Glen Frey.
    Cheers

Here’s another song from Jacki’s list that has always been magic for me. It puts me in the mind of a late-evening beach party.

Great song, Joe! One of Goffin & King’s finest efforts. The lyrics used to confuse the heck out of me, until I learned that they have flat roofs in New York City.

Hi David, Yea I used to call it Tar Beach. I remember when I was a kid and we lived in an apartment back then in Queens New York. I always would go on the roof. During the afternoon tenant would bring a folding chair and sun bath. Of course they would bring their transistor radio back then. Yea Carol King has done some great songs in her career. Be good. Joe, I think I mentioned a few months back that I saw John Sebastian in concert around 1993. He sang a fairly new song called Tar Beach, from an album of the same name, which had a feel similar to Up on the Roof. He prefaced it with an explanation of what the phrase “tar beach” means, and that was the source of my flat roof insight.

Well, since it’s relevant to the topic of this thread, I might as well post it:

Hey Joe and David, a couple of great songs. Up On the Roof always lingers in my head long after I hear it with “upon the roof”! John Sebastian’s Tar Beach is really nice and catchy, reminds me a little of the later Beach Boys sound too.
