    Hi Mona and Lisa,

Have you ever seen this instrument. It’s called a Chapman Stick. Here is an example of what it sound like performing George Harrison song It’s all too much from Yellow Submarine. It’s a pretty interesting sound and instrument. I think. The only think I don’t like is the name.

Since Mark Chapman was the one who assassinated John,

Also a definition of instrument :

Ten-stringed Chapman Stick. The Chapman Stick is an electric musical instrument devised by Emmett Chapman in the early 1970s. A member of the guitar family, the Chapman Stick usually has ten or twelve individually tuned strings and has been used on music recordings to play bass lines, melody lines, chords, or textures. Nov 4 2019

I could see one of you playing this instrument.

The piano of guitars!! Certainly a wacky and cool looking instrument. Hats off to whoever decides to take on the journey of mastering this instrument 😉

I’ve never played on anything like that but of course it’d be fun to give it a try. Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of its tone, even from when the stick masters are playing. I prefer the sound of strings being plucked or strung rather than tapped.
But thanks for sharing the video and for reminding us of one of the more weird and wondrous string instruments out there!

Quite a few years ago, we saw the Tony Levin Band in a small club.  Tony is a master with the Stick.  He is probably best known for his work with Peter Gabriel.

He is truly amazing to watch.  I remember they did a couple of King Crimson songs, one of Tony’s previous bands.  Is anyone familiar with Elephant Talk?
It’s a kool song from the progressive rock era.  It’s not for everyone, but I think it is fun to watch and try to keep up with what they are doing.

Here is a great video from 1981 when they appeared on a late night TV show.  https://youtu.be/p5Eoek8a500

It sounds like a portable electric piano you can take anywhere!  Very cool!
