    Hi MonaLisa Twins,

I would like more insight in how “Still A Friend Of Mine” came to fruition.

I suspect that Rudi was just sitting at the piano and playing a few different chord progressions, before settling on A E G D for the first part. He possibly had some sort of melody in his head for this section and laid it down.

I then suspect that he asked the three of you to formulate some lyrics to fit the melody.

Then I suspect that he moved on to the next part and settled on F Am F#m D E while you continued to create the lyrics.

Your mum possibly decided to include a strings section while the creation of lyrics continued.

    How did I go?

    Was I close?

I am really interested to find out how the song was created and from where the inspiration came?

    Kind Regards

    Hi John,

It was one of the tunes we wrote during our stay in Lanzarote and I remember Dad sitting in one room with his little travel keyboard, Mona pondering over lyrics in another and me sitting in the garden with an iPad and piano app installed on it, tinkling around.

Whenever we work on songs it is a collaborative process where we bounce ideas off one another, pass passages we’re stuck on to someone else and always ask for feedback.

It’s normally not a straightforward “chords first, then melody, then lyrics” type of scenario but rather something that evolves on multiple fronts at the same time. If the lyrics don’t fit, the melody changes, if we want to change the feel of one part, we go back and tweak the chords etc.

Dad writes really well on keys so he did the heavy lifting on this one.

    Greetings to Australia 🙂

    Hi Lisa,

    Greetings from Australia.

Thank you so much for that insight of how that song came to fruition and how you generally work collaboratively on most of your originals.

I must say that “Still A Friend Of Mine” is one of my favourites.

I love how you covered every aspect of production prior to the shoot, and I loved the Barbie Doll and Hand Made Piano pre-shoot draft. It really gave the production crew an exact shot list. You had set the lighting and had determined the angle selection. Much more detail than you would see on a storyboard. Well done.

I am sure that the production crew would have been overwhelmed by the pre-shoot draft.

The end product was fantastic. I enjoyed it immensely. I play it frequently.

    Bye for now.

    Kind Regards
