The finish to the ORANGE cover art
I was listening to “ORANGE” today and the cover art came to mind. Since I was driving, I thought I’d wait to get home to take a look, but something occurred to me that I couldn’t reconcile. I went to the “making of” video and ran the sequence where you two are becoming orange a few times. I can’t be sure if this is several still photos strung together, or edited video. It appears that the paint comes from two directions simultaneously but in the video, I only saw Team MLT so if you are taking paint, and your dad and Michaela are throwing paint, who’s running the camera? Or, was it captured as video and the final image composited from several frames? Or something else altogether? Sort of bugging me so I’m just going to sit here squeezing a tennis ball while this moderates…

That’s an excellent question, thanks! You are right – it was just the four of us that day and here is how we did it:
Dad and Michaela stood on either side of us with buckets. They would throw the paint at the same time while dad would control the camera that was in front of us with a remote control in his other hand. He’d press the shutter while throwing the paint which turns out wasn’t the easiest task. It was a challenge getting the timing right but we got enough good shots to piece together the final artwork in Photoshop (using multiple images).
It was a fun project up until the point when the clean-up began! 😉 We still found paint on the ceiling and the camera equipment months and even years later!

Cool funky stuff, love when further groovy bts nugget gems are found and then elaborated on, good one Dale, I had never even thought of that …until…you asked about it….lol???

My goodness! I always assumed it was some kind of edible food based goop with orange coloring. Don’t tell me it was real paint!

Given how iconic the Orange cover photo has become for us, it would have been cool if they had scraped up the paint and made little baggies of it available as a merch item.
