Alignment buttons in post editor produce code snippets
Posted by Howard on 08/03/2020 at 06:15Hi Team MLT. My post in the General section of the forum has been held, with the following message:
post Warning: A non-numeric value encountered in /home/rudolf/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bbpress-simple-view-counts/bbpress-simple-view-counts.phpon line 95

Hello Howard,
It seems like something went wrong with your post. It contained some strange code and when I tried to edit it it disappeared completely. Would you please try to post it again?
We did a major database update and had a few hiccups. We could fix most of them already but there might still be some irregularities that went unnoticed. Please continue to inform us about it. It really helps a lot 🙂

I’ve just reposted it and get the same message:
Warning: A non-numeric value encountered in /home/rudolf/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bbpress-simple-view-counts/bbpress-simple-view-counts.php on line 95
The Post includes three photos.

I tried to edit the post again and this time it worked.
You did not enter some html code in the post directly, right? -
No. I didn’t enter any html code in the post directly. I simply uploaded the photos via the BBC upload code.
Thank you for fixing this. It has happened every time in the past when I include more than one photo/video in an original post and will probably happen again.

Hi Rudolf. This issue has arisen again. In the Forum under General Discussion, a post of mine in reply to the Topic “CSN suggestion”, has added some extraneous text for some unknown reason.
Buffalo Springfield – “For What It’s Worth” & “ Mr. Soul” Medley, Hollywood Palace 1967. <p style=”text-align: center;”>
-
I tried to replicate that error but with no luck.
It was also very easy to fix your post by just copying the text you posted, getting rid of the html code, re-pasting and centering it with the align center button.
It looks like html code was sneaking in somehow.
Can you describe how exactly you made these posts?
Do you write them in another program and then copy and paste it here?
My suspicion is that it is not clean text you are posting but text with some html formatting attached.
To really make sure posting clean text only you can copy it first into a text editor like Windows notepad before pasting it into the forum.Or do you use BB Codes?
This is actually not necessary because you can do it all with the graphical user interface above and I must admit I never tried to use the codes directly. I know that it says above “You can use BBCodes to format your content.” but it is meant through the buttons below.

Hi Rudolf, in case it helps, I just replicated the problem in my “How did you experience your MLT joy today” post. I created some text from Microsoft Outlook and pasted into the post, and centered it using the “Align Center” button. I tried the same thing without centering the text and it was OK. I think the issue might have to do with the Align Center function when text is created from another application.
-
That is really a strange issue. I could not get that happen once and I played around for half an hour now with different browsers on different computers. Can you replicate the problem every time or does it appear randomly? Could you please give me some info about the computer/phone/tablet/OS/browser you are using when this problem appears?
-
I can replicate the problem consistently if I enable any of the 3 “Alignment” (left, center or right) buttons when I type in text and highlight them. If I disable the alignment button, then I don’t have the problem. It does not have anything to do with using another application to create the text because I typed the text directly into the post.
So there appears to be a problem with the Alignment function. I am using Windows 8 on my ASUS X55U laptop, and my browser is latest version Google Chrome.

Thanks for doing this.
Could you do me another favor testing the other buttons of the editor if somewhere else also appears some strange code.
I cannot get that happen:
Centered text
image right
text left
At the moment I have not the slightest idea why I cannot recreate the problem.

I notice the post goes into awaiting moderation state if there are multiple links or photos in the post.
-
The post only goes into awaiting moderation state when it contains any kind of code to prevent spam or hacker attacks or when it contains a certain amount of non-English words. The number of images and links in topics is not restricted but only one image per reply is possible.

Great, seems like only the alignment buttons are the problem. I will try to find the reason why this is happening.

Hi Rudolf. I only experience this issue when I am posting in a newly created topic for the first time and using multiple photos/videos as in this particular case. The text was created in an email draft and copied to the post and the photos then uploaded using the upload icon and then centred using the alignment icon. I hope this helps.
<p style=”text-align: center;”>“The number of images and links in topics is not restricted but only one image per reply is possible.”</p>
I always understood we were able to post multiple images and links in an original topic, but in the first post only. Is this not correct? This situation has been an issue for me for some time now, although I have seen others post multiple images/links. -
I just centred your quote using the alignment button and this is how it posted:
<p style=”text-align: center;”>“The number of images and links in topics is not restricted but only one image per reply is possible.”</p>
