Hey Joe, thanks for the Beatles selections and the videos. Those special variations and isolated vocals and instrumentation ones are cool, like the Norwegian Wood. I’m really liking Rain, the guitar sounds, that backwards effect vocals, the drumming, catchy tune, everything. Ringo’s favourite Beatles song.
Perfect song for what we need out here in the Pacific Northwest, the whole west coast actually with all the forest fires. Terrible what’s happening. We’ve had very thick smoke cover all weekend in Vancouver coming up from the fires in Washington State and Oregon. Looks like we might have some rain on Tuesday.

Awesome Mike! Thanks for the extensive lists.
Super David! Some interesting Monkees tunes to check out. Thanks!

Hey Jung,
Good morning, I thought they were pretty cool the isolated vocals and instrumentation. I remember way back when. When ever I got a new album, I would listen to it 3 ways.
One just the left speaker only. Then only the right speaker only. Then with both speakers to hear everything on that album. Until finally I bought an equalizer.
Well Jung I hope the heavens open and put out those fire in California and Oregon. And gets rid of all that smoke and pollutants from the air. Let’s hope..

Hi Joe;
Yes, AGFTK is a good one…..but so is Crazy Eyes. I think I like Crazy Eyes a bit more. Actually I have all 20+ Poco albums…..so to me they are all must have. I picked the ones above for Poco because at that time Richie had left the group and it forced the other guys to step up as songwriters…..which they did well. But, when one talks about Poco, it is always which Poco do you mean???? There have been so many personnel changes over the years. Mike.
-
Michael,
I have about 7 albums and two cd’s Crazy Eyes is one of them. Pickin up the pieces.
I see you had the Monkees – Have you heard Mike Nesmith country cd’s They are really good.
-
Joe, I’ve heard most of Nez’s stuff, and I love the country-flavored songs he wrote during the declining period of the Monkees and continuing into the First National Band era. I’m not a big country music fan in general, but those tunes are great. Such simple and straightforward melodies that I can’t believe they didn’t already exist, and lyrics lightly sprinkled with evocative imagery.

Meant to get back to you David. I thought it was Mike Rife with the Monkees. But it was you.
Yea like I said, out of all the Monkees, Mike Nesmith was the true artist. Nothing against Peter, Mickey and Davy. I have all of Mike’s solo cd. I really like them. Matter of a fact, I think I will listen to them the next couple days. It’s been a while. I used to be that way with Country then I moved to Texas and bam I love country. I like all types music except rap.

That’s true they have gone through some members. But the original were the best. Timothy B Schmidt he was an original. Correct ? I guess he ended up with a pretty good band. What were they called . The Eagles
-
Hi Joe;
I’m sorry but that was David who had the Monkees. But, I agree with you about Mike Nesmith’s country or country/rock music. It is really good. The song “Some of Shelly’s Blues” is among my favorites. Mike.
-
My favorite Nesmith cd is Tropical Campfires. I actually have all his music. Nesmith the older stuff and the newer stuff. I like them all. He was really the most talented Monkee. Different Drum Linda Ronstadt. What a great song.

So Mike, I am assuming you are a Buffalo Springfield fan? So many bands came from that group. It’s pretty amazing all the talent there was. So you seem to like Country and Country Rock Bands. Who are some of your favorites.
-
While on this topic of country sounds from bands, Both Denny Doherty and Cass respectively on each of their solo stuff have offerings of country sounds eminating from some of their songs, and it works because their vocals were versatile, and easily blending with the music and/or other singers…. the collaboration of Cass with Dave Mason is excellent, I recommend giving the solo stuff of both Denny and Cass and the Cass and David Mason collaboration stuff a listen….

Hi Joe;
Yes, I am a big Buffalo Springfield fan. I think Stills was/is a musical genius. I also know Richie Furay some through his shows and on FB.
My favorite country rock bands are: Poco, PPL, NGDB, Marshall Tucker, Outlaws……also there was this little known group in England during the 1970s called Unicorn. Their songs are pretty good. Also, another musician in England and his former group is Frank Walsh. His former group is Old Country Union. It surprised me when I found out their were country rockers in England…….but their music sounds just as good as anyone. I also like Lonestar from the US…..and I’m likely forgetting some. Mike.

Hi Joe;
To do some clean up on some of your other postings. Timothy B. was not an original. Believe it or not the original Poco bass player was Randy Meisner….who went to of all groups Eagles. And later TBS went to the Eagles. Seems like the Eagles just kept taking Poco’s bass players. But, with Randy Poco recorded PUTP and Randy left before it was released. Got into an argument with Richie Furay about not being able to sit in while mixing the album. So, he left and went to Ricky Nelson’s band and then to the Eagles. Poco re-recorded all of Rnady’s vocals on PUTP and then it was released.
I am also a huge Ronstadt fan. I believe she had one of the best voices of any time. Her and Karen Carpenter (though different) had voices that were truly musical instruments. Mike.
-
Thanks Mike. Yea I did not know that about Randy Meisner and he too was an Eagle.
Learned something.
Yes Linda was a great singer. It’s a shame she has Parkinson and she has lost her singing voice. In her heyday I thought she was one of the prettiest women on the planet.

Mike, Some of my favorite country artist are Marty Stuart, Waylon, Willie, Cash, Gram Parson, Owens, Dwight Yoakam, Rodney Crowell,Highway 101. A Russian Group Bering Strait and many many more. It’s funny I was not that big into country. My wife was. We moved to Texas and suddenly I got into country like you wouldn’t believe. I know one thing there are a lot of
great country guitarist who do not get the credit they deserve. I love Dolly, Shania, Emmylou, Cline, Reba. etc….. Oh and Ricky Scaggs, Vince Gill…
I will have to check out Frank Walsh.
I also loved the Buffalo. I only wished they stayed together a little longer.
