Vocals on Orange
Posted by Timothy Connelly on 12/10/2018 at 02:59I was wondering if you could break down who does the lead vocals on the Orange CD. Also, what inspired the song Count on Me. I am so excited about the new CDs and will order my copies later in the week.

I already mentioned in a different forum post that I had the initial idea to write Count On Me during a power blackout back in Austria. I was sitting in complete darkness, quite literally.
When working more on the lyrics later on, I didn’t struggle much with the verses. It is something that is on my mind a lot. Trying to figure out one’s place in this world, never quite feeling at ease, doubting, questioning but in the end trusting in the journey. You know, the sort of existential stuff that keeps you up at night 😉But I wasn’t quite sure where to take it for the chorus. I knew I wanted to emphasize the positive sides of the relationships in my life that helped me figure out those “bigger” questions. How important it is to have people around you that you can trust. The fact that Dad came up with the lyrics for the chorus, kind of refers to exactly what the song ended up being about. What do the kids call it? It was kind of … meta? 😉
Family played a big role in helping me figure out “life stuff” so I love that he gave it that spin in the chorus. And I also just wanted to write a folk song in C that goes to an E before it hits the F … always wanted to use that chord progression haha.
Hope that answered your question 🙂
Thanks, Lisa-
Hi Lisa;
I did some playing around with the C E F chord progression and for me I kept going to a G afterwards. The G just seemed like a natural place to go. Then after those 4 chords a couple or so times something that worked for me was Asus to A and then D7sus to D7 and back to G as the bridge/chorus. I don’t know if that will do anything for you, but it sounded OK to me.

Thanks Lisa, that was so helpful!
Would I have gotten everything right? I am getting there. It took me many years to differentiate between John and Paul (though I was only 15 when I could separate them almost perfectly). Having seen all the videos to When We’re Together and Beatles and More- I was able to follow who sang what from the videos. Since there were many fewer videos for Orange, I was left guessing and am pleased to
I’ve noticed that Mona seems to sing a lot of rockers- Revolution, Twist and Shout, The Last Time, Club 27- but she also does a terrific job with the lead vocals on When I’m 64 and Maxwell’s Silver Hammer, a couple of much milder songs. And you do lead on most of the really beautiful ballads such as Still a Friend of Mine and God Only Knows but then knock it out of the park on Mercedes Benz so it’s not possible to separate by style of song.
By the way, as a father myself- it is wonderful to hear you talk about your relationship with your dad and your family. You girls are special on so many levels and I think all of us here on this forum are aware of that.

What a great post. A year ago I don’t think I could have guessed very accurately when it was Lisa or Mona’s voice leading, lately I think it improved to about 60% of the time I could tell. Now I will know for sure when I listen to Orange 🙂
Love hearing the insight into how “Count on Me” was conceived. -
Well I thought I had it figured out who did lead on most of your songs but you got me on Club 27. I could have sworn that was Lisa. But then that confirms what Tim thought because I thought the same thing and that Mona tends to do lead on the rockers. But I will say this, Club 27 kicks some major butt. That is one heck of an awesome song.

If you have the MLT Play Beatles & More #1….Listen REALLY CLOSELY… ( or be lazy and read CD booklet????????????????…you’ll come to really hear how both Mona & Lisa can both hold their own in leading vocal duties….then lusten to ORANGE again and the previous CDs and you’ll get a better sense of whom sings what…etc…but their vocals are quite similar with slight distinctions????????????✌️????☮️????????????❤️????????????????️????????

Its Alright -Mona
Waiting For The Waiter- Lisa
In It For Love – Mona
Count On Me – Lisa

Close, but I still have trouble tell which is which. I do know that Lisa’s is slightly higher and Mona’s is more of a Rock type.
