I was wondering how you pronounce your last name?  Do you use the German VAHG–ner (like the composer Richard Wagner) or the English WAG-ner (like the actor Robert Wagner), and if you use the English version, has that been just since you moved to Britain?

The “correct” pronunciation would be VAHG-ner and I try to stick to that when we meet new people. However, when the postman wakes me up early in the morning to deliver a parcel and asks for my name I’ve found myself saying it the English way more often than not. It’s easier and people understand it quicker (and I get back to bed again quicker). 😉

Mona ..That’s WUNDERBAR????????????….I gave up trying to correct teachers in school forever spelling my name with the ” e ” at the end so I let them do so though it bugged me to no end…. But.. at least I knew my own name and how it was/is spelled correctly ..without the frikkin ” e “….though now from time to time I’ve seen other variations that folks have used to adress my name????????????

On the same note, Lisa do you pronounce it “Lisa” like the English or “Leesa” like your native tongue? Thanks for your answers ladies

When we’re at home, talking German I’d only ever pronounce it the German way (as you say, more like “Leesa” or even “Leeza”). On the other hand, when I’m introducing myself to someone in English and I’m in “English speaking mode” I’d pronounce it in more an an “English” way. Funny and a little strange when I think about it but that’s how it comes out. 🙂

It is funny also when you meet someone that has your name. Even Stranger when that person has the same First, middle, and Last name as your self. Spelled the exact same way. Even stranger when their birthday is the same as yours, including the year!???? true story.Talk about having your mind blown
