What a wonderful world
What a beautiful cover of Louis Armstrong’s masterpiece.
It reminds me of a time a few years ago, I awoke one morning and my vision was blurry. Got to the office and turned on the computer and I could not read anything and I freaked out and went to emergency. The regular emergency room doctor had me go see a specialist that afternoon. The doctors could not figure out what the problem was and sent me home with a bunch of eye drops and night time ointments. What worried me was when I asked if my vision would return to normal the doctor couldn’t say yes for sure. After a couple of days it cleared up one morning and I could see normally again, but for the two days of uncertainly I feared the worst that I could not work or lead a normal life again. What a tremendous relief of gratitude I felt. Turned out to be a severe dry eye reaction to laser eye surgery I had a couple years earlier. I have to use special eye drops to prevent drying out.
For the two days I was down with blurry vision and not knowing if I could see properly again, I really missed just the every day things like going outside and seeing the mountains or admiring the beautiful flowers. When my vision returned to normal that morning and I went for a walk, it felt like “what a wonderful world”. My normal every day life felt so sweet and wonderful. I sometimes remind myself of that when I start feeling frustrated with life. Just being able to see and having my normal life back felt like a blessing and a miracle.
