What are you listening to?
Posted by Robert Blume on 25/10/2018 at 21:48Hi Mona & Lisa,
I guessing you both have extensive playlists on your iPhones (or device of choice). What are you currently listening to? Are there contemporary bands/performers that really get your attention musically?

Hi Robert,
What I listen to on a day to day basis totally depends on mood, or I simply let my “random” button design my playlist which normally results in quite the mix of what I have saved over the many years. Obviously most of it is things from the 60’s with our biggest love being the British Invasion stuff from that decade. But on a day to day basis I find myself checking out all sorts of things. Let me scroll through my playlist real quick and give you an example of the mix in artists I’ve recently been listening to … Beatles (obviously), Dire Straits, Gilbert O’Sillivan, John Mayer, Billy Joel, Sondre Lerche, Nina Simone, John Martyn, Paolo Nutini, Madeleine Peyroux, Emitt Rhodes, Bo Diddley … So everything from current Jazz to old school rock n roll 🙂
Now of course that by no means means I “love” them all equally, but that’s just what recently kept me entertained through long video editing sessions.
As for a recent “current” discovery: I loved the musiciality on the “The Other Favourites”’s “Fools” EP. Simple, effective arrangements and great musicians. -
Good reply Lisa…I liked a mixed bag of sorts myself …though hiphop/rap / heavy-duty metal /punk don’t really get my ears much but besides MLT …I listen to Glass Tiger…Me Meow…Amy Winehouse…Patsy Cline…Cass Elliot solo stuff …Cass Elliot & Dave Mason….jazz stuff…country…big band… 50s-80s….basically… Whatever strikes a chord within my musical ears…..????????????????????????????????????????????✌????????????????????☺????????

Thanks Lisa. I suspected you and Mona have wide ranging musical tastes. You really cover the gamut with the artists you named. (Jackie, you’re all over the board too! Patsy and Cass! None better!) I was an AM Top 40 kid as a teen. Just like every kid I knew. After college Charlie Parker and Muddy Waters came calling. And I was consumed by that for years. It took me awhile to venture from my little jazz & blues corner. These days I’m having musical overload. So many things to check out that I missed completely….in all sorts of genres. I’m also nagging the 20-somethings in my family to share what they are listening to. I’m always curious what they enjoy and think is good. The holidays are almost here and they know I’ll be bugging them again over the turkey and cranberry sauce. In return they are going to hear all about MLT, if they haven’t already (You Tube on the big screen TV….right after we watch Elf and The Grinch). Again, thank you for the great reply. The Other Favourites “Fools” EP, huh? I’m on it.
