Loved Traveling Wilburys, and yes, I loved Peter/Paul/Mary’s take on Bliwin In The Wind, but am also partial to Ian and Sylvia Tyson’s version too…?

Several……..my favorite album of his is Blonde on Blonde and my favorite song from the album is Stuck Inside of Mobile with those Memphis Blues Again. So quirky and so many great lines in the song. Another of my favorite songs of his is a later song which is Make You Feel My Love. Everybody and his brother/sister has covered that song which shows it is likely a good one. Also, has the lyrics are just so deep in feeling. Mike.

I think we had this exchange once before, Jacki, but are you talking about “Four Strong Winds” rather than “Blowin’ in the Wind”? I can’t find an Ian and Sylvia recording of the latter.

Yes David, my bad, I had forgotten but for whatever reason, I keep having it in my head it’s the Dylan song they do… Thankyou for the reminder of how dumb I can be sometimes when I’m not thinking with clear head…appreciate the correction? Now I’m hopefully embarassed enough now to remember…lol

Not to worry, Jacki. We all have little mental blocks and crossed wires about various details of things. I always find myself talking about episodes of magazines and issues of TV shows.

Great topic David. My favourite Dylan song would have to be Blowin In the Wind. My grade 5 elementary music teacher, Mr Stevens, was very hip with music and loved all the great 60s music. In music class he would put up the flip chart with song lyrics, and had the kids sing along while he played the piano. Sometimes he would break out the Ukeleles and have us play it too. None of us knew how to play, so we just strummed along. I experienced some of the most joyous music moments that often caused goose bumps. Some songs I remember singing along on were Blowin In The Wind, One Tin Soldier, Proud Mary, Puff the Magic Dragon and many others.

One of his best… Have to serve somebody .

As a teen Olivia Newton John came out with a cover of “If Not For You” and I love that song. I had never heard George Harrison’s cover of the Dylan song until about a year ago. I like that even better. I’ve tried to listen to the Dylan version, but I’m in the same category as Jacki in that I don’t enjoy Bob Dylan’s voice.

Thanks for your reply Mike
I love the way Stuck Inside of Mobile with those Memphis Blues Again was used in the intro to the film I’m Not There. I agree its full of surreal fun lines.

Ian & Sylvia did a fantastic cover of Dylan’s Tomorrow Is A Long Time

Thanks for your reply, Jung
What a hip teacher; sharing his love of  great music
I have a similar memory of a high school teacher playing us Dylan’s Desolation Row in English class.
