YouTube Milestones – Five to reach One Million soon

“Til There Was You” passed 900,000 views today. Although the number of views per day has gone down since my original post in April, it is still the most likely to be MLT’s 20th YouTube video to surpass 1 million views. The other 4 on my list have already reached that milestone.
Meanwhile, “Please, Mr. Postman/Wipeout” and “Wish You Were Here” are in a tight race to 2 million views.

Hi Lynn! That is great news to see Til There Was You approaching the 1M milestone, and #20, awesome!
Really nice to see Mr Postman continue to skyrocket! Love that one. I hope Mr Postman and Wish You Were Here hits the 2M mark at the same time, that would be awesome. Thanks for tracking these.

If the numbers from September hold constant (and of course they won’t), Mr. Postman will reach two million views in 81 days, and Wish You Were Here will get there in 107 days. Mr. Postman is currently trailing in total views, but is being viewed at a greater rate, which means they are likely to be tied at some point soon. The linear projection would be a tie at about 1,926,000 views 62 days from now.
Again extrapolating from September’s numbers, Till There Was You will reach a million views in 127 days.

Great to see “Stuck in the Middle With You” reach 100,000 today! Sept. 26th to Oct. 17th. Exceptional mini-milestone for one of my favorite Duo Sessions!

Some projections for the next month or so based on the latest figures:
Nowhere Man: 600,000 views on Dec. 7th
Twist and Shout: 800,000 views on Dec. 7th
The Wide, Wide Land: 200,000 views on Dec. 10th
Drive My Car (2021): 100,000 views on Dec. 12th

I Wanna Kiss You: 200,000 views on Dec. 17th
Two of Us: 700,000 views on Dec. 18th
Sound of Silence: 400,000 views on Dec. 19th
House of the Rising Sun: 300,000 views on Dec. 20th
Revolution: 800,000 views on Dec. 25th
Please Mr. Postman / Wipeout overtakes Wish You Were Here on Dec. 27th
Yesterday: 500,000 views on Dec. 27th
When I’m Sixty-Four: 3,000,000 views on Dec. 28th

Close to You: 200,000 views on Jan. 2nd

Kinda neat that four different MLT originals may all hit 200,000 within five weeks of each other!

Hi David,
Thanks for sharing these stats. The variations are interesting.

Hey, David, I was just about to mention that “When I’m 64” is closing in on 3,000,000 views. thanks for pointing that out.
Here’s another milestone to watch: “Close to You”, an MLT original, is at 953 thousand views on FaceBook. I believe it will be their second original to reach one million views. I don’t have any idea right now how soon this will happen, but I’ll be watching it from now on. Perhaps David would like to take his analytic skills over to FB, as well.
-
Hey, Lynn. I’m actually not on Facebook, and I can barely find the time to process the YouTube stats once a month. (It’s a labor of love, though.) I had no idea that the Facebook views were much greater in number than the YouTube views. Is that true for most MLT videos?
-
There is actually quite a mix, David, with some Facebook videos outpacing their YouTube counterparts and vice versa. “Still a friend of Mine” is MLT’s second most watched video on FB with 2.6 million views and yet it is still below half a million on YouTube. On the other hand, “I’ll Follow the Sun” has passed a million views on YouTube, but on FB it has only 35,300 views! By the way, I was wrong: “This Boy is Mine” was the second MLT original to reach a million views on FB (currently at 1.1 million), so “Close to You” will be their third.
I will work on compiling some Facebook video view stats over the next month or so. “Wish You Were Here” is their most viewed FB video with 3.8 million views. Unfortunately, Facebook rounds off to the nearest 100,000 once a video reaches 1 million so it might be difficult to estimate when that particular video will reach 4 million.
-
It’s crazy that there are such differences in the viewing stats for the two platforms, Lynn! Does Facebook have something comparable to the YouTube videos page that just tiles them out chronologically, or is there a different type of cataloging?
I’ll be looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the Facebook views.
-
David, they are listed chronologically and also by type (Duos, Beatles covers, originals, etc). Unfortunately, I can’t sort them by view counts.
-
As I type this, the YouTube counter for Imagine is sitting at exactly 500,000 views!

Some projections for the next month or so based on the latest figures:
When I’m Sixty-Four: 3,000,000 views on Jan. 6th
Starman: 400,000 views on Jan. 7th
Close to You: 200,000 views on Jan. 12th
I’m a Believer: 500,000 views on Jan. 12th
The 59th Street Bridge Song: 200,000 views on Jan. 22nd
Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind: 500,000 views on Jan. 25th
Please Mr. Postman / Wipeout: 2,000,000 views on Jan. 27th
Stuck in the Middle With You: 200,000 views on Jan. 29th
I Bought Myself a Politician: 200,000 views on Jan. 29th
Money (That’s What I Want): 400,000 views on Jan. 29th
Sweet Lorraine: 200,000 views on Feb. 2nd
Note also: Africa is sitting at exactly 800,000 views as I type this.
-
Some projections for the next month or so based on the latest figures:
Till There Was You: 1,000,000 views on Feb. 22nd
Michelle: 200,000 views on Feb. 28th
And that’s it! Strange how the milestones cluster like that.

I’ve been out of town for a week and away from computers, so I missed a couple of milestones this past week.
“I Bought myself a Politician reached 1 million views on Facebook (in less than 6 months, which is great for an original)
“Till There Was You” became the 20th video to reach one million views on YouTube.
“Questionable” should reach 100,000 views on YouTube in its first week. That is phenomenal for an MLT original.
