I’ll Follow The Sun – New Video

“And now the time has come …

… And so, my love, I must go. And though I lose a friend, In the end you will know.”
I’ll Follow The Sun – one of our favourite Beatles songs that is hugely responsible for us falling in love with their music when we were teenagers.

The song will feature on our album MonaLisa Twins play Beatles & more Vol. 2 which is available for pre-order right now! If you also join the MLT Club before the release date (28th of October) you’ll even get a free month and your copy signed!

“I’ll Follow The Sun” has always been one of our favourite melodic Beatles songs. It sounds so simple at first listen yet it’s anything but. The chords are complex, and the way the melody loops around when the verse repeats has always fascinated us. Add Paul’s sweet voice and it’s a timeless masterpiece.

We remember vividly the time, many years ago, when we were about 14 years old and riding on a bus through Austria on a group excursion with our grandparents and a whole bunch of their friends and their grandchildren. The two of us spent the entire ride in the last row listening to Beatles songs. It was at the height of our Beatle Mania phase when we were in the middle of discovering and devouring their entire back catalogue and learning all songs by heart.

“I’ll Follow The Sun” came on on our mp3 player (no iPhones back then), and we put it on repeat at least three times. Then we walked through the aisle of the bus to our grandpa, made him listen to the song, got our mp3 player back and continued our Beatles listening session while driving to some castle or museum – The Beatles seemed much more important at the time. Frankly, they still are! 😉

For some reason, it was especially important to us that our grandpa listened to that one song in particular, because we couldn’t believe how beautiful it was and just had to share that with someone. He’d never heard it before but he said he liked it so we were satisfied. Mission accomplished.

Now we hope you like our humble take on it!

We initially recorded this song a while ago for Steve from Florida, one of our biggest fans and supporters. It was a birthday surprise for him and we loved creating something that we knew would make him smile. Now he and we are excited to share it with you all!

Let us know what you think about it, please.

Stay groovy,
Mona & Lisa

  1. I love you both, Please come to Australia and sing for us ! 🎵

  2. “There’s still a bit of confusion as to whether Ringo slapped his knees for percussion or tapped a cardboard box, but whatever the case, the combined result sounds great to me.” —Robbie Thornton, The Beatles Universe Features Page
So, this must be why we see Mona slapping the chair and dancing on the washboard.

  3. I think this was the very first video content post when the MLT Club launched 1 year ago. So thrilled to be here 1 year later, and to see the Club going strong and growing. Thank you to team MLT for all the hard work to give us so much wonderful content, fun, and joy here at the Club.

  4. You ladies are “wunderbar”. I am a beatles-loving american. If you ever need a singing Bassist let me know, lol. Anyway, you both are so talented, I wish you the best. You are much better than any of the “big” acts, who can’t hold a candle to you. One of my favorite songs to play and sing is “she’s a woman”. Have you covered that yet? Sincerely yours, Daniel

    1. Thank you, Daniel – also for the offer! 😉
We’ve played “She’s A Woman” countless times. It always went down a storm at the Cavern Club and is such a fun one to do live … great to bounce around the stage to! 🙂
There are some videos of it on YouTube but we’ve never released it on our channel or an album. We might in the future! Thanks for the kind words ❤

  5. Wonderful cover. Its great to see you guys keeping up the good work. Mona! The flute! You did so very well (you got a real talent for playing furniture too). Ladies, you keep me, and so many others, smiling. Great stuff.

  6. This has been one of my favourite tracks since I was given the first 8 Beatles albums when I was 17, I’m 64 now and I still love it. You do a great job of covering it. Peace and Love.

  7. The flute gives it that extra bit like in You’ve got to hide your love away. Clever job!

  8. Love your version of this song. You girls sing like angels. The one spot where Papa Rudi has a big smile on his face projected to me how proud he must be of his daughters. He and Michaela have done a tremendous job raising you two and helping in developing you into the fine, upstanding young women you are today. You are two very fortunate young ladies to have them as parents.

  9. How wonderful is this? What a beautiful arrangement of a massively underrated song.

Possibly my favourite Pre-1965 Paul song. Mona, your flute playing was sublime! Loved it!
P.S. Totally off-topic but that Abbey Road sweater is absolutely adorable, Lisa!

    1. Saba, you summed it up perfectly! All the little details picked up on. Perfect. Glad to see you here.????

  10. Love this, love you two and I have pre-ordered both albums

  11. The “I’ll Follow the Sun” video has become a new favourite MLT cover of a great Beatles song. I love ❤️ you both Mona & Lisa. It’s great seeing your father Rudi supplying a great bass track to this classic song.

  12. Great cover. Beautiful harmonies as always. Looking forward to receiving my pre-order vols 2 and 3.

  13. I read Rick Ross’s comment about someone already made the “I’ll Follow the Sun” video public. I almost wanted to post it on FB but then I realized I shouldn’t because it won’t be officially released till the 21st. So I’ll wait until on or after the 21st of this month. Although YOUTUBE has the video.

    1. The video is “unlisted” on YouTube which means that only those who have the secret link can watch it. It won’t show up if people search for it and we’ve only posted it here for the MLT Club 🙂 Please feel free to share it far and wide once it’s officially released (in fact, that would be great ❤) but we’d appreciate it if everyone kept it “exclusive” until then. Thanks for your team work!

      1. You have my solemn pledge Mona, that what’s in the club stays in the club until you guys decide to make it public.

  14. Great job, girls. Very nice early song from Paul. Very nice singing, playing and arranging.

  15. LOVE IT! And Mona playing that flute! Fantastic! And More Ukulele by Lisa!

  16. Antonio Barros Barros has posted I’ll Follow The Sun twice to IFC today. If this continues to happen there won’t be a club and that’s sad.. I’m of the opinion No Tolerence! You break the rules your out. No second chance.
    Thanks for letting me rant

    1. Hi Rick. I just noticed your post. Just clarifying. Are you saying someone has posted the MLTs Beatles cover publicly? If this is true it definitely needs following up. How did you find out?

    2. What happens in MLT Club stays in MLT Club.

  17. I try, I try! 😉

  18. Ah… yes… dear Mona… and in addition to all that perfection… compliments for your flute playing. It reminds me of this little solo in “hand in hand”, the undoubtedlessly most beautiful song on McCartneys new album “Egypt Station”. And in addition: Congrats to your marvellous parents who seem to support you all the time…

  19. Hey… this is really fantastic. You got these exact tunes, the vocals… to me you are true music goddesses

  20. MARCIO ARROYO
    Everytime lovely performance of Beatles.
I will follow the … MonaLisa Twins!

  22. I completely lost what I had written. What I notice most is how true you two sing the song–and how well your pronunciation is. You still have your slight original dialect when singing. You both use your tongue for wonderful diction that americans don’t do. You sing clearly and precisely as the lyrics ring out. This song is a beautiful example. AND THEN your harmony—ahhh

    1. Well said.

  23. I got so freaked over the new clubhouse that I didn’t even know you released this for us. I know these songs so well and you two are so true to them. I think from your dialect you use your tongues to pronounce your words so much better than any Beatle cover I’ve heard. And I love the additional instruments–washboard/chair drumb/flute/uke. But it just adds to the texture subtly to this song–so well arranged–so beautifully sung.

  24. Love MLT, very charming Beatles cover and video.

  25. The video has a simple elegance to it which fits the song beautifully.

  26. This one is tied with “When I’m Sixty-Four” as my favorite of your Beatles covers. Lovely stuff. And the flute has me wondering what your versions of “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away” and “The Fool On The Hill” would be like (hint, hint)

    1. THANKS Ricardo! Glad it’s ranking high 😉 “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away” and “The Fool On The Hill” … now you’ve got us wanting to record more Beatles songs AGAIN. And we just finished the two new cover albums!! haha! But that’s some good choices to keep in mind for the future 🙂

  27. Wow! Awesome video, but from previous videos over the years, I know that’s all you allow to go out. Everything you do is awesome and you are also! Love the video. Love you!

    1. Thank you Jerry ♥♥♥

  28. From the moment I heard “I’ll Follow The Sun” in 1964(?) I really liked it. I liked this song more than some of their hits. You two did a great job on it. The flute at the instrumental break was a complete and pleasant surprise. I am really enjoying this site. Mike.

    1. Thanks Mike! We agree, it’s got to be one of our favourite Beatles songs. Glad you like the flute break! We thought we’d switch it up a little bit 😉

      1. Hi Mona! Switching things up a little is what makes music better at times. You two are special and play your various instruments so well. Mike.

  29. I see that Mona finally learned how to play the flute. 🙂

  30. Only the Mona Lisa twins can make a Beatle song their own. Another beautiful rendition of one of Paul McCartney’s most beautiful compositions!

  31. You do such justice to the song and, as always, bring your wonderful harmonies to it and your infectious smiles to the video and to me.

  32. Thank you for sharing your beautiful rendition of this lovely Beatles song with us. I’m surprised your grandpa didn’t know it, but then again, being Austrian, I guess he is excused. You must have had a wonderful time on that bus trip listening to so many 60s songs for the first time. Being a teenager in the 60s, I know what it was like listening to those songs on the radio for the first time. I must say that I hadn’t had the same experience again until I first heard your covers just a few months ago. Can’t wait to hear more and have just placed my third order from your store. This one includes your three ‘MLT play Beatles and more’ CDs. I have lots of questions for you to come. Thanks again for welcoming us into your beautiful family and your wonderful club!

    1. Thanks Howard, that’s awesome! Isn’t it great how the Beatles are still having the same effect on people, no matter their age, gender and background? And they will continue to do so forever 🙂 That’s such a pleasant thought! And to know that you’re enjoying our take on their songs means a lot. Thanks for supporting our music, for getting our CDs and for joining us here ♥

  33. Hi Mona & Lisa,
Paul McCartney is coming to Vienna this December for two concerts.
I think it will be wonderful if you were able to go on stage and sing this song with him…
In your home town…a dream come true…can be an unforgettable event 🙂

Right after Vienna he has a concert in Liverpool………..

  34. Beautiful

  35. Lovely. So much going on I had to watch it again and again. Mona, your flute playing is coming along quite nicely. Do keep playing. It’s a treat to hear (and watch) you girls playing your own instruments. Something that is lacking in most of today’s popular music.

    1. Thanks Cal! Really appreciate that!

  36. That is just enchanting! Absolutely lovely playing. I’ve heard that wonderful song a lot before, but never knew it was a Beatles song. They never cease to amaze me. You girls never cease to impress with all the instruments you just pickup and learn and play yourselves for your music and videos. Just true musical artists at work creating everything from scratch in the studio. Love it!

  37. I just joined and watched the sneak peek!!

    Merry Christmas to me!! ????

    Tim

  39. A Wonderful version of a wonderful song! Well done, again!

  40. I just cried and cried. Mona what a delight to see you playing the flute and you were and should be so very pleased with your self. Outstanding. Phenomenal job as always. Thanks for the behind the scenes footage. Thanks again Ladies

    1. Ricky; I think that you and I are twin sons of different mothers, my dear friend! I was emotionally overwhelmed watching this as well! (REAL MEN CRY and are not ashamed to admit it, eh?) When it got to the end when Mona and Lisa spoke, it brought to my mind the first time I ever heard them speak; at the end of their cover of “Daydream” by John Sebastian; John Sebastian himself! I think the Twins were 19 then, and now they are 24. They get prettier and lovelier year by year!

    2. Thank you both so much!!!!!!!!
Rick, did you spot something in the video? 😉

      1. Hi Lisa,
YES!!! I spotted 2 things in the video!???? MLT is so excited to see his Cousins!!! He keeps saying the same thing as me! (hahaha) Thanks Ladies!
        PS. Hi To Mona too????????????❤

  41. How is it that you keep finding ways to make me smile and cry at the same time, young ladies? This song and video alone is well worth the price of admission into the MLT Club for 5 years! You can Count On Me to stay here with you always! Mona, sweet little Mona; you did learn to play the flute, young lady! Bravo! Big sis Lisa; you and your Twin continue to delight us, and take us higher and higher to Follow the Sun! Since I ordered your 2 new groovy albums early this morning, I’ve been smiling all day. Remember that I’ll always P.S. send my love to you.

  42. Awesome….Simple yet such depth to it… A pleasure to hear and sing along with you while I watch & listen… And I agree… This song is a gem….☮️????????❤️✌️????????????????☀️????????????????????️????????????????

  43. Great looking Thalia capos you’ve got there. Beautiful song that you get to feature your great harmonies on.

    1. Well spotted! 😉 And they work a charm! Thanks Rich ♥
