Why?
Why, why does it always have to be
Why, tell me why oh why
Why does it always have to be that way
Another day goes by without asking why
Time and time again
A war on the sovereignty of man
No one left to call out what is wrong
If everybody’s made to play along
The grip is getting tight
The walls are closing in
The gauntlet’s thrown, the war is on
But nothing’s there for us to win
So tell me
Why, why do we still believe
Why, tell me why oh why
Why do we still believe in what they say
Still falling prey to lies and wolves in disguise
Time and time again …
Why, why does it always have to be that way
Another day goes by without hue and cry
We are meant to follow
Egomaniacal dreams
Some Kool-Aid to swallow
Unravelling at the seams
It’s not black against white
And not left against right
It’s not east against west
And not good against best
It’s not new against old
It’s not what you’ve been told
It’s not red against blue
And not me against you
It’s not up against down
Just a merry-go-round
When we ain’t running nowhere
But hitting the ground
We live in a sea
Of deception and war
And have never found out
How to get to the shore
‘Til the curtain has fallen
And the truth comes to light
We will never quite know
Why we’re fighting this fight
And when the last soldier
Stops bending the knee
To the almighty state
And the powers that be
The spell will be broken
And we’ll come to see
That it’s never been something
Between you and me
Why all that deception
And why all the fuss
It’s not us against them
Why is it them against us?

This indeed is a musical experience going for five minutes; with intense political and provocative lyrics. It has incredible fat layered harmonies, superbly sung; with the hint of Queen-like vocals. With the break at 3:12; there’s some exceptional drums by Mona. This section has a bit of Pink Floyd sound to it and subjectively it would be interesting to hear just the music a bit longer, before the vocals resume to give it even more space. There’s a superb cutting cello sound which drives the song along.
The song is a big statement in “why?” in many aspects of the world’s situation. The lyrics do not hold back and they are very cleverly written. It makes you think and it’s an epic sensational track!! An immense amount of outstanding vocal work has gone into this masterpiece! Big commendations go to Mona and Lisa for their sensational mammoth vocal work!!
To me I would say ‘Why’ follows on from ‘I bought myself a politician’ in where the world is and where it’s heading. Lyrically brilliant and perceptive. If the world doesn’t see what is happening very soon we are going to a very dark place. Very mature, concise social commentary. This is what John L would see and be commenting on if he was with us. Thank you. I admire you so much. Steve
