    Jung…”MonaLisa Twins, Double Trouble”.

    That’s good, that’s awesome good!

Lisa can re-create her carving Mona’s name on the stair bannister as per the “Life With Twins” video.

Mona can re-create her pushing Lisa in the “California Dreaming” video.

Jung, you always come up with some great topics!

As a teacher, August always is the time that I start gearing up for the upcoming school year. July is care free, but in August school is always on my mind. But as Mona and Lisa say at the end of “Dreams”…It’s okay.

We always have our first day (administration/teacher/staff meetings) on September 1. First day of classes is the day after Labor Day.

Labor Day is always the day I dread the most, but the Friday at the end of that week is nice…a return to normalcy. It is especially good if the Buffalo Bisons have a baseball game that Friday night. This year it falls perfectly.

Have to give the props to Deborah. First, she becomes a big Toronto Blue Jays fan and now she comes up with a great album title. She’s a keeper!

1980…Grade 10…went to the record shop to purchase “The Grand Illusion” by Styx (I had the up-to-date albums, “Cornerstone” and “Pieces of Eight”). However “The Beatles 1962-66” was staring at me and I bought it.

From there, the next album I purchased was “The Beatles 1967-1970”. Then it was time for original albums; specifically, “The White Album” and “Abbey Road”. Until then, I liked The Beatles, but side two of both those original records made me a fan for life!

My wife, Deborah, came up with a very interesting album title today. We were talking about the upcoming MonaLisa Twins production and she came up with “Out of the Dark” as a possible title. Deb’s rationale is that it would fully encompass the recognition/reboot/risk theme as well as the escape (hopefully) of the Covid-19 pandemic.

    What do you think?

The harmonies by Mona and Lisa are so good, but what always gets me is their instrumental prowess. Mona’s simple, eloquent, playing on her hollow-bodied Ricky on “Here There and Everywhere”; Mona’s accordion playing on “Vincent”; and Lisa’s uke work on “She’s Leaving Home” are just so outstanding.

The combination of their brilliant harmonies along with their instrumental prowess makes these blessed, hard-working twins what they are; simply, the best musical duo of their generation.

Jung, thank you for reposting the new album video. The video shows the work that Team Wagner had to do to create that first album…no doubt similar to what is being done today. The “to do” lists, the “checkoff” process of each instrumental part, and the individual recordings of parts within songs was so fun to watch. Finally, at the end of the video, you can see that Papa Rudi and Michaela are good dancers. Mona and Lisa did not inherit Papa’s dancing prowess, lol. But that’s cool, just more musicianship, which is the big thing!

Rosemary is, indeed, a tough interviewer. She asks the hard questions and doesn’t accept soft answers. Rosemary can do this because she is well-read and knows her stuff!

Adrienne has reported from many dangerous settings across the world such as war zones, areas where communicable sickness are rampant, and terrorist situations. Her bravery is unbelievable!

Barton and Arsenault fearlessly take on the world!

Jung, I know that Canada Day is long over along with our Independence Day, but this seems to be the perfect thread for one last thought.

Vancouver will probably be quieter than usual this weekend. It is tradition when the Toronto Blue Jays play in Seattle, they have a large contingent of fans from the Vancouver area cheering for them. It is a chance for the West Coast fans to see their Blue Jays…Canada’s Team!

As you know, you have the Blue Jays High-A team, the Vancouver Canadians. Many big league ballplayers have played for the Canadians on their way to “The Show”. From everything that I have read and heard, Nat Bailey Stadium is a great ballpark!

We have the Blue Jays Triple-A team here in Buffalo, so several of our players have played in your neck of the woods. I have season tickets, and just got home from a game.

Next week, Deborah and I will be in Toronto enjoying our favorite Canadian cuisine; namely, Swiss Chalet and Harveys…we are simple folk, lol! In addition, we are going to the new Harry Potter musical, we will get lost in IKEA, and we will go to as many Blue Jays as possible without irritating Deborah too much…she has a big baseball threshold because she became a huge Jays fan when they played in Buffalo!

You, Jacki, and the other MLT Club members from Canada are fortunate to be living in such a great country!

Love riding trains, even though my train riding has been kind of limited: VIA rail from Niagara Falls to Toronto; GO Transit from Oakville to Toronto; and (kind of stretching it here) the TTC in Toronto…guess there is a “Tronna” theme, lol.

Jurgen, you posted a Johnny Cash video. Have to post one more. Ride This Train Story 34 [The Year 1859, to Titusville, Pennsylvania]. My Mom was born and raised in Titusville. We visited my Grandparents several times a year, always visiting Drake Well. Mom and Dad (he called it his second home) were married there. Finally, they are laying in the peace of the St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Titusville, so Deb and I go back to visit.

To have Johnny Cash write and perform a song about such a special place to is both thrilling and humbling. Hope that everyone enjoys this video.

Yes!!! Saw this on The National on CBC.

Although they did not do this story, Adrienne Arsenault and Rosemary Barton are my two favorite newscasters…tough as nails, but with a nice touch.

Don Gato! We learned this song in Grade Three music class, except our song ended with the cemetery verse.

    What a throw-back Thursday!

Not to be untoward to John, but it is a good thing that he stuck with music.

Just had my Englishman in New York experience, but it would be named “An American in Toronto”. Fully vaccinated and with booster shots, I was given a COVID-19 test kit at the border. No problem, was more than willing to get it done. Well, arriving to the specified lab, I was told that they do not do such tests, and I had the kit! Okay, called the Canadian Health Department, was put on hold for an hour, was given another address. Went to that given site and the place was permanently closed.

Okay, let’s try again, called Canadian Immigration, was put on hold for another hour, and was told that the testing process was not their problem. Decided to go to a local hospital to have the test done…they said that that they have never heard about on-arrival testing.

By now Day 1 was over with precious hours left until my 24-hour time limit expired. Decided to check the website of the lab provider where I tried to establish an account. The lab provider would not accept neither my personal email address nor my professional email address. Was up until 3 a.m. trying to establish an account. By then we were done.

The next day, we went home (we were concerned that my lack of a test would jeopardize our return to the U.S.), forfeiting hotel room fees and the cost for theatre tickets.

Always loved Toronto, but I don’t know if I will ever return. In fact, I don’t even know if I can. Anyhow, it is not the same place: The entire city reeks of marijuana smoke and everyone that we talked to seemed to be “out of it”.

Glass Tiger! The Opening of SkyDome! Wow, I remember that well. Glass Tiger comes out playing “I’m Still Searching” and the opening of the roof even though it was raining. Andrea Martin and Alan Thicke hosted the extravaganza.

So much super and underrated Canadian musical talent during that era: Lawrence Gowan (my favorite, met him and had a graduate school classmate who was a friend of his. Gowan is a great guy); Rush (also my favorite–sat next to Geddy Lee at a Blue Jays game once, he is a baseball fanatic); Luba; Jann Arden (we just saw her in concert a month ago); Honeymoon Suite; Serena Ryder; The Holly Cole Trio; The Spoons; and The Box are just a few of the outstanding talent of my generation.

I am ultra-convinced that whenever MLT decides to go abroad, Canada would be the Market. Canada would “get” them, Canada would appreciate them, and hey, why not continue in the Commonwealth!
