Yes, Joe, Micky wrote it. He didn’t write many songs, but this one was a doozy. A less incendiary version ended up on their album The Monkees Present.
-
Thanks, Joe; I will. That’s one group that I’ve always meant to explore further.
-
Yes, even the Monkees had a song banned! The record company refused to include this song on one of their albums until Micky Dolenz toned down the lyrics a little.

Rainmaker – Harry Nilsson
The Rain, the Park & Other Things – The Cowsills
Sunny – Bobby Hebb
Stormy – The Classics IV

Joe, I just looked up the origin of the title last night on Wikipedia: “The song’s title is the time at which the song is set: 25 or 26 minutes before 4 am.”
I only know BS&T’s three big hits, but I love them all. Interestingly, they even did a cover of “Got to Get You Into My Life”.

I like Chicago a lot too, Jung. I know we’ve talked about them and their sound some before. All other things being equal, I prefer songs with lots of brass in them to songs that are all about the guitar riffs.
I was introduced to them via the Brady kids’ cover of Saturday in the Park. My favorite song of theirs is 25 or 6 to 4, but I’m a fan of all the ones you mentioned.
-
Yes, Jung, I remember the Columbia House Record Club and things of that ilk. The print ads were everywhere. When I was a kid I used to read all the labels on the photos of those stacks of tapes, but I was never tempted to buy because I didn’t know any of the groups. Well, that and the fact that my allowance was just 25 cents a week.

I wish we had sung Joy to the World in music class, Jung; that would have been fun. The only Three Dog Night song we learned was Black and White, and we were too young to appreciate the significance of it.
-
I’m a fan of Three Dog Night too, Bill. A few months ago I suggested that MLT cover Joy to the World.

I thought this was the best song on the “Eurovision ’83” cassette that my French pen pal sent me when I was in high school. Fortunately it was an audio cassette, so my eyesight wasn’t damaged by the outfits.

Translation:
All alone with my pain, I’m walking through the streets.
The loneliness of tomorrow is getting me down today.Yes, I’m waiting for the one, but nobody is waiting for me.
I’m spinning right round in the twister of stormy feelings.Such a hurricane, hurricane, hurricane, thunderstorm of love.
Hurricane, hurricane, hurricane, thunderstorm of love is taking us away. Then I finally found her after empty, dark hours.
But destiny was not on our side. Now I’m standing in the rain.Such a hurricane, hurricane, hurricane, thunderstorm of love.
Hurricane, hurricane, hurricane, thunderstorm of love is taking us away.I live in my fantasies, and I hunt the rainbow.
Did we cheat ourselves? Cheat ourselves…Hurricane, hurricane, hurricane, thunderstorm of love.
Hurricane, hurricane, hurricane, thunderstorm of love is taking us away.Hurricane, hurricane, hurricane, thunderstorm of love
Hurricane, hurricane, hurricane, thunderstorm of love is taking us away.Hurricane, hurricane, hurricane. thunderstorm of love.
Hurricane, hurricane, hurricane, thunderstorm of love. -

That’s a very fertile well to tap into, Joe. From the Seekers’ catalog alone there’s Chilly Winds, Blowin’ in the Wind, What Have They Done to the Rain, Four Strong Winds, The Sad Cloud, Chase a Rainbow, and Cloudy.
