I just learned about this singer a couple of weeks ago. She was the lyricist, and original recording artist, of this song that is much better known from a later cover version:

My fellow 70’s kids might be interested to know that she was also the vocalist on the Great American Melting Pot song from the Schoolhouse Rock cartoons.

I can’t believe no one’s mentioned Karen Carpenter yet!
And of course, in my opinion, there is no more beautiful and powerful female singing voice than that of Judith Durham:

Thanks, Joe. I actually bought the Yo Frankie album when it first came out, after catching the Subway Wall video on MTV. That one was my favorite track.

Dion DiMucci, lead singer of the doo-wop group Dion and the Belmonts (“A Teenager in Love”), struck a chord with this song a few years later as a solo performer:

Nice selections, Joe! Dhani is pretty much George reincarnated.
I once saw an interview in which Paul told a cute story about his son. When James was very young, Paul was working on the song “So Bad”, which contained frequent use of the phrase “Girl, I love you.” Since all his siblings were sisters, James thought he was being excluded from the love, so in the last verse Paul changed it to “and she said, ‘Boy, I love you.'”

That’s the only tech trick I know! I figured it out by looking at other videos that had been set that way. I wanted to start it at the 34-second point, so at the end of the URL I added &t=34s (“and time equals 34 seconds”). It’s a pain to do the math when you want to start several minutes in, but it works.
I don’t know if it’s possible to set an end point; I’ve never seen a YouTube video that did that. But yeah, it would be handy to be able to slice up an existing video exactly to your own specifications that way.

Noel Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul & Mary) wrote this song for Peter Yarrow’s wedding:

Yeah, the protagonists are two bumbling but lovable idiots. The new film is called “Bill and Ted Face the Music”. Of course, seeing the earlier ones first would provide some essential context.

Yes, Jung, that’s Keanu Reeves. I take it you haven’t seen “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure”. It’s a fun movie worth checking out. They made a sequel two years later, and the third installment premieres tomorrow after a 29-year hiatus.

Good call, Bill! Goffin and King are my very favorite pre-Beatles songwriting team, and of course her solo career has been stellar.
I bought a ticket to a local Broadway road company performance of the Carole King musical, but unfortunately it’s been postponed for at least a year.

I had to look up that reference, Joe, but yeah, good one! If that story is true, then the guy missed his chance to have a “brush” with greatness.

I like that one too, Jung. But I always imagine that whoever rang the bell at the beginning gave up and left sometime during the five minutes that Paul spent singing about hypothetically answering it.
