Okay… solo Monkees? Mike Nesmith won critical acclaim for this video in 1977, before there was even an MTV to showcase it:

Lynn, that performance reminded me of the YouTube “bad lip reading” videos, where you watch clips from movies or speeches and hear the people say nonsensical things that match up perfectly with their mouth movements. This is my favorite:

I’d have to go for Christmas, because of the photo’s strong “we don’t take ourselves too seriously” vibe. If I didn’t know who they were, and I just happened to come across that album in a music store, I might buy it based on that picture alone.
I also like the When We’re Together photo: it has a friendly, welcoming quality that meshes with the happy, upbeat nature of most of the songs.

Glad you enjoyed it, Jung! It’s one of the few episodes of that show that were more sentimental than spooky. I always have to have some tissues with me when I watch it. I imagine it’s meaningful to anyone who wonders whether they’re leaving the world a better place when they retire.
Oh, and best wishes to your brother! I know that’s going to be tough for him.

Part 2: He goes into his empty classroom, pulls a pistol out of a drawer, and points it at his head. Suddenly a group of students materialize before him, and this happens:

Okay, here we go.
Part 1: A dedicated old poetry teacher at a boys’ prep school is told at the end of the academic year that he is being forced into retirement because of his age. As he comes to grips with this development, he has a reflective moment that probably every teacher has had at some point in their career:

Jung, I still have my Blockbuster’s card, and Oregon is one of the states I have yet to visit, so…
If you can’t find that Twilight Zone episode, I found a couple of key clips on YouTube that I could post along with some connecting exposition.

The library is a great idea, Jacki! I just checked the on-line catalog for the library at the school where I work, and they have it, so I guess I’ll pick it up there. Thanks!

Thanks, Jacki. I guess I’ll have to pursue one of those avenues.

No problem. That movie is on my to-do list now, so I’ll find it somewhere.
The premise of the film made me think of a Twilight Zone episode called “The Changing of the Guard”, about an old retiring poetry teacher. Are you familiar with it?

Well, that got me there, but it says “Video unavailable. This video contains content from Disney, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.”
-
No, Jung, but that title isn’t even coming up in the search.
-
Grrr! It says “video blocked in your country”.

And here’s a ragtime-style cover by Judith Durham:

How about some solo material from members of the Seekers?
Here’s an original folk song by Bruce Woodley:
