Apparently people are making ice cream that incorporates actual flowers:

I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure that nowadays they could engineer ice cream that smells like flowers, saving Linus and Lucy a little money.

This is so fascinating, Jung! I love music theory, especially when accompanied by examples that I can relate to.
-
I know exactly what you mean, Jung.

I knew the song, but I had never seen the video before, so I had no idea that his “woman” was actually a dog. Now I’m going to have to sit back and reinterpret the whole meaning…

Oh boy, a challenge!
“Somnologists said they wouldn’t lose any sleep over the idea, while chiropractors gave it their strong backing.”

Jung, I know very little about classical music, but toward the end this composition reminded me a lot of a short classical piece that Peter Tork once played on a Monkees TV special. (I seem to be on a Monkees bender today…) I looked it up and found that it was written by Bach’s son, who I didn’t know was a composer in his own right.

Joshua,
It’s on YouTube. For some reason it’s not listed under “recent MLT club posts”, which is where I usually find their new videos.

I kind of ignored “Staying Alive” when it came out, but I got really into it when it was featured in the movie “Airplane!”
All this Bee Gees talk has rekindled a memory of a comedy sketch from a TV special that Michael Nesmith (of the Monkees) did in the early 80’s. The relevant portion is from 0:33 to 0:56 .

I just checked, Jung, and it’s not the same tape. Mine is called “Bee Gees Gold”, and it came out on Polygram Records in 1976. (I also have a pre-disco ABBA greatest hits tape from about that same time.)
I had actually never heard “Spicks and Specks”. Really catchy! I see the similarity to some Donovan stuff, and the driving beat also reminds me of the Lovin’ Spoonful’s “You Didn’t Have to Be so Nice”.

Ah, I should have included the Bee Gees on my list! I used to listen to a greatest hits tape (pre-disco, of course) all the time, but I never re-bought it in CD form. In the last few years I’ve been checking out their very early performances on YouTube, such as:

Jung, I think Star Trek is more of an adventure of the mind, and Star Wars is more of an adventure of the spirit. And both are an important part of a well-balanced breakfast.
-
I agree with you on the prequels, Jacki. I think they got progressively better, but they never came close to being as compelling as the original trilogy.
I remember when the first Star Wars movie came out on home video. It cost 120 USD, which was about five times the average movie price at the time. It was highway robbery, but we just had to have it! Fortunately I was still young enough that my parents bought it for us. It was essentially a one-present Christmas that year.

The video is on YouTube now, Howard! I just checked.
