Yes, Jacki, it was a Kotter reference. Epstein always used to hand Mr. Kotter excuse notes that were invariably signed “Epstein’s mother”.
-
Jacki, why do I suspect that your doctor’s note was signed “Epstein’s mother”? (A little insider joke there.)
-
That’s okay, Jacki. As long as you have a note from your doctor about your allergies, you can still play with us.

I agree with Jung, Howard; Luca is adorable! Does he live on the second floor? (Sorry, 80’s music reference…)
Yay, now we’re talking about cats! I’m a cat person myself, but my wife is allergic, so I have to live vicariously and from old memories.
When I was in graduate school I had two kittens that were rescue cats in the most literal sense. One of the other students that I shared a house with left her boyfriend’s house one day and found a kitten in her car and decided to bring it home. During the drive she heard some additional meowing, and stopped to find another kitten perched on the wheel well. Presumably they came from the litter in the yard next door after an animal attacked, because we later learned that they had all disappeared.
A cat would certainly be a great companion right now, when I could hang out with him all day. I envy you, Howard!

Hey, Jung. “In My Room” is one of my very favorite Beach Boys songs. The beautiful harmonies contrast with the introverted lyrics to produce a bittersweet masterpiece.
But this version… not so much in my opinion. He has a good voice, but he doesn’t keep a steady tempo, and of course the harmonies are missing. I guess you could call it a “haunting” rendition, but I’m not looking to be haunted right now.

Thanks, Jung. I may be the only big Neil Sedaka fan in this club, but after the Beatles, Goffin/King and Sedaka/Greenfield are the songwriters I go to when I need an instant infusion of happy, so I was excited to see that he is still alive and capable of performing. Of course, his voice was a lot crisper 60 years ago!
If you have a few minutes, check out some of his original recordings from the 50’s and 60’s. (Not the sappy stuff from the 70’s.) The style of his self-harmonies reminds me of MLT’s harmonies on the “When We’re Together” album.
Edit: I just read your comment, Jacki, so I don’t feel quite so alone now. I hate to remember this, but I first heard Calendar Girl, with greatly modified lyrics, in a TV commercial for Purina Cat Chow.

In this era where we’re all looking for quick smiles, here’s the maestro of catchy ditties:

This is next-level genius, Robert! Thanks so much for sharing it with the club.
If you look around this forum you’ll see plenty of uploaded non-MLT videos, so no worries there. And anything Beatles-related will draw a favorable reaction from most of this crowd.
As far as an MLT mash-up, I’d kind of like to see them do it with some of their own songs. Now you’ve got me thinking about how to parse and sequence them for a smooth flow…

Yes, it’s hard to find an oldies station around here nowadays too. (I was thinking of the time that “I’m Yours” came out.) I imagine it’s because their target audience of baby boomers is mostly retired now and not supporting the advertisers. I get my “random” music from YouTube playlists now.
Thirty years ago, when I lived in Los Angeles, I could tune in a radio station out of San Diego that played only early rock-and-roll, from 1955 to 1965. One of the disc jockeys was none other than Wolfman Jack! That was a golden era of radio for me.
-
Well, Jacki, to hear it I would have had to tune the radio dial off of the oldies station, which would have been sacrilegious.
-
I have the same history and reaction regarding this song, Jung. Before hearing MLT cover it, the only point of reference I had concerning the songwriter was this:

Will do, Howard. I just hope I’ll understand that the parody is all in good fun, and I won’t sue myself.
