Call me a crazy heretic, but there’s actually one song from the 80’s that I’d love to hear them take a crack at: The Bangles’ “If She Knew What She Wants”. I won’t post the video here because… well, it’s the 80’s.

I’m not sure if I have enough seniority yet to be part of the welcoming committee, but… welcome, Dale!
I just discovered MLT this past April exactly as you did, and after a couple of weeks I joined the club because I needed to talk with someone, as I phrased it in my introductory post, “to help me manage the euphoria”.
You won’t be disappointed. We have all kinds of specialists here: artists, guitar nerds, music historians, etc. So no matter what you would like to share, you’ll find someone to engage with.
Be sure to check out the older posts in the forums, too. It’s hours of (mostly) enthralling reading!

Thank you, Jacki. I always enjoy reading your poems, no matter whom or what they’re about.

Thanks, Howard! Sorry to “ruin” this wonderful song, but the stomach wants what the stomach wants.
What you quoted was actually the first line I came up with when I was casting about for ideas, at which point my mind green-lighted it for further development. It’s all about the hook!

I agree, Howard. I really hope their next album contains at least one song produced in this manner. It’s nice to get away from the exultant energy once in a while and strip it down to the point where you feel like you’re quietly swimming around in someone’s mind.
The very first time I heard this song I thought of “Yesterday”, and how it broke the mold for the Beatles. I hope MLT continues to experiment with “soft” sounds like this.

But I noticed the entry states that they are identical twins, whereas they replied to a member’s question in the “ask MLT” forum a few months ago that they had no idea whether they were identical. I’m sure they’ll be thrilled to know that Wikipedia somehow figured it out for them.

Jacki (or others), do you know whether last year’s advent calendar is archived somewhere on this site? I wasn’t in the club yet last December, and I’d like to check it out.

Very nice! I was half expecting Mona to show up to play the flute at the end.

I read up about them on Wikipedia: Camille and Kennerly Kitt, a.k.a. The Harp Twins. The article states that “they are best known for their duet arrangements of contemporary songs from artists including Iron Maiden, The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Lady Gaga, Blue Oyster Cult, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Rihanna, Guns N’ Roses, U2, Coldplay, Enya and Journey, as well as music scored for video games, films, and television. The Harp Twins have posted over 100 music videos on YouTube”.
Unless Mona and Lisa have been holding out on us about their harp-playing skills, I smell a possible collaboration. I’m trademarking this name: The Monharp Lisharp Twin Twins.

Member30/08/2019 at 13:20 in reply to: MLT God Only Knows Beach Boys covers surpasses 1 Million view, yay!!Nice find, Howard! I knew I couldn’t be the only person to have noticed the similarity. But honestly, ten seconds into “Waterloo Sunset” I was CERTAIN I was hearing “Laughter in the Rain” and wondering how I had never learned that Sedaka had just written new lyrics to an old song. But eventually the tunes diverged and I saw I was wrong.
I understand that the bar for plagiarism is very high, but it still bugs me. And I’m the type of person who will listen to a song a hundred times and never pay attention to the lyrics, so I’m laser-focused on the tune.
Just a few months ago I heard (well, to be clear, OVERheard) a song by Justin Bieber called “Love Yourself”, and after the first two lines I was internally screaming, “This is the Bee Gees’ ‘How Deep Is Your Love'”! But then it corrected course and became more original.
I agree that MLT could really do something with “Waterloo Sunset”!

Okay, I’m convinced: Mona and Lisa can cover any song by anyone and make it their own while still remaining true to the original.
I recall Lisa once saying something to the effect that she doesn’t understand why some people choose to cover a great song and yet remove every element that made it great in the first place. MLT always know exactly how to balance their own style with respect for the original recording.

At the risk of resuscitating the plagiarism discussion, I think this tune might have “inspired” Neil Sedaka’s “Laughter in the Rain”.

MLT covering Elvis is an intriguing idea, Howard. Do you envision them writing harmony parts for the lead vocals, or would it just be one of them singing solo?
