I came across this album at a record store in the 80’s. I didn’t buy it, but the title and the cover art gave me a good laugh!

How about this chart topper from 1959? According to Wikipedia it’s a Hammond B3.

Hey, Juergen.
Because it’s so goofy, I like the Mamas and Papas album cover with the interchangeable faces. If you’re not familiar with that, the front of the jacket has two layers. The top layer is “hinged” on the left side, and has a left-to-right split going all the way across the middle, so that you can flip over the upper half and the lower half separately like pages of a book to reveal the bottom layer.
What’s the point? Each layer has a photo of the faces of all four members, but they’re arranged in a different order. So if you flip over one half but not the other, you see the upper halves of the faces paired with the lower halves of different faces!

Tell Me Why is EXPLODING on YouTube: over 11,000 views in the last 24 hours! Here’s a comment from a few days ago:
“OK, I’ve never heard of you before, this just popped up on my youtube recommendations just now, but I’m totally digging this! Awesome! One of the best covers of a Beatles song I’ve heard!“
-
Hold onto your love beads, folks. The numbers for Tell Me Why, averaged over the past week, are V = 5703 and C = 10.3. These figures are over THREE TIMES HIGHER than the numbers from nine days ago!
This degree of resurgence for a video has not happened before since I started taking these stats. I’m mystified as to why it’s occurring, but it sure is great to see!

Speaking of world population, it is thought that in the next few hours India will overtake China as the world’s most populous country, a title which China has held since the mid-1700’s.
This date could actually be off by a month or two because India was not able to conduct its last census due to the pandemic, so its population is projected from less comprehensive data.
Here’s a site where you can watch the numbers change “live”. The populations of China and India are given at the top of the second column. I estimate the baton will be passed today at around 6 PM New York time.

I grew up during the height of the disco era and couldn’t stand it! The only music I really enjoyed were the bits and pieces of 50’s/60’s songs I heard on Happy Days and on TV commercials for albums of greatest hits from that era. Then in the mid-80’s I found an oldies radio station that played all those old songs, which still form the backbone of my musical preferences.
So yeah, it’s not a generational thing for me; it’s about the quality of the music. It’s sad that I have no personal memories associated with the release of those songs, though. One of the things I love about MLT is that for the first time in my life I can hear NEW music that I actually enjoy and can connect to my contemporary experiences!

Chris, I’m pretty sure that 159K number is current, and “2 weeks ago” refers to how long it’s been since the video was posted. It should change to “3 weeks ago” in a few hours.

I hadn’t seen the Jack and Gisele duet before, Jacki, but I just checked it out on YouTube. Very talented… and very funny!

Yes, Jack Benny was a much more accomplished violinist than he let on:

Hmmm… I wonder if Mona and Lisa gave any thought to what would be the first song on the B side of the vinyl for both Orange and Why? when they decided on the track sequence. I asked them once before about sequencing, and they said that they have definite ideas for what should be the first and last songs, but that the others are pretty much arbitrary.

Seems pretty plausible, Juergen!
Don’t worry; I’ve never encountered anyone who remembers The Critic. And Pufnstuf was a kids’ show made by the same people who did The Bugaloos. There are a few episodes of each on YouTube, but it’s not required viewing.

Thirty years ago there was a prime-time cartoon called The Critic, made by the same folks who created The Simpsons. It included a very minor character who was referred to as “the kid from Easter Island”. He had a human body topped by one of those giant stone heads, but with real eyes. He was basically used only for a single running gag where he walks by very unsteadily with his arms out for balance, and then topples over and does a really noisy face plant.

My favorite childhood memory of Easter is the blissful experience of sitting in front of the TV watching H.R. Pufnstuf while pounding down an endless supply of chocolate, peeps, and jelly beans from a wicker basket.
