Definitely not obscure, Tom!
The same YouTube algorithm that brought me MLT introduced me to Anne Reburn a couple of years ago. She’s at about the same level of YouTube fame as MLT, and her covers likewise get a lot more views than her original songs. Here’s one of her best covers:

Shortly after I first discovered the Beatles, Paul put out the following video, which I taped off MTV and watched obsessively. So oddly enough, I’ve viewed Paul as a part-time drummer from the very beginning.

Here are the initial numbers for Any Other Day, for the last hour of Feb. 21st: V = 10584 and C = 20.2. (The total number of first-day views was actually considerably higher than that, so I may have picked a “slow” hour.)
In a few days I’ll post a new batch of daily updates.

This is the only song I can think of offhand about Alaska:

Love these Paul interviews and press conferences, Jung! They’re always insightful.
I did a triple-take on that “long weekend” remark. At first I thought, “Oh, yeah, it’s Presidents Day.” Then, “Wait a minute… he’s Canadian.” So I looked it up and saw that this is Family Day, at least in a few provinces (including BC). In other provinces it’s other holidays (on the same day), and in a few it’s not a holiday at all. I’m so confused!

Averaged over the past week, If You Raise Your Head is at V = 619 and C = 1.86.

MLT have an amazing ability to capture the essence of an era or genre in a very non-specific way that can’t be traced (at least by me) to any particular song. The only time I’ve ever been able to draw a direct comparison is with This Boy Is Mine, which stimulates the same happy places in my brain as Can’t Buy Me Love. Not to say it’s not an original composition, just that I feel a kindred musical spirit.

This thread will never die!
My YouTube recommendations list has hooked me up with a live webcam that I’ve become addicted to: the airport at Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. Obviously not terribly busy, but it’s fun to watch tiny little planes in the snow loading and unloading passengers, taking off and landing, and to ponder the idea of flying around Greenland.

Hey, Juergen.
That song is from 1960. The only other song of his I know is The Battle of New Orleans (“In 1814 we took a little trip…”). I just looked him up and saw that he also had a number-one song on the country charts called When It’s Springtime in Alaska.

Oh, boy, here we go…
“I haven’t slept for ten days. Because that would be too long.” (Mitch Hedberg)

This video averages just a little over one view per day on YouTube. It deserves a lot more!

Awesome graphics, Jacki! Prepare to reload, though: in about three weeks, both “Twist and Shout” and “Africa” will be reaching 1,000,000 views. Twin celebrations for the twins!

Very cool, Juergen! I would have gone to my grave not realizing that music is being written and performed in Greenland. I guess I’m stuck in a time warp where everyone there is engaged in subsistence fishing and just trying to keep warm.

Hey, Lynn!
Yes, probably sometime tomorrow. This Boy will be the tenth MLT video to reach 2,000,000 views. It’s one of my favorite songs also.
