Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Usually I try to make my parodies really silly, but there’s something about this song that wouldn’t allow me to alter the sentiment.

Nice, Jacki! Creativity is in the air today.

I remember when MLT shared their Here, There, and Everywhere cover with us. I was fairly new to the club and eagerly compiling a list of old songs that I’d like to see them take a shot at. As soon as this one appeared, before even clicking on it I thought, “Of course! This is the song they were born to do!” And it’s still one of my very favorite MLT covers.
Funny, after reading the Paul quote about old-fashioned intros I tried to come up with some examples, and the first one that entered my head was Bad to Me, performed by Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas but written by Lennon/McCartney. Clearly that’s not what he meant by old-fashioned, but now that I think about it, that song does seem sort of like a proto HT&E.

Papa Rudi said it was a bug in the software, and we’d probably just have to wait until they fix it.

Nima, just think of yourself as the kid that got to open the last Christmas present while all the other kids looked on enviously.

Right after I joined the MLT club, I went back and read pretty much all the old forum posts, and that one amazed me to no end. How many musicians (or anyone else, for that matter) have you ever heard express such a deep, insightful, comprehensive opinion of what music is? Just pure genius.
As I said a while back, I think Lisa and Mona would be very successful as authors, quite apart from their tremendous musical and artistic skills. They are extraordinary multidimensional entertainers, and yet in ordinary conversation they come across as humble, silly, and just plain likeable. I’ve never encountered anyone like them in my life, and hence my addiction to this club!

One of my favorite comedians, Norm Macdonald, was diagnosed with cancer in 2013, but kept it private and continued performing right up until a couple of months before his death in 2021.
He even made a joke about it. With regard to the media euphemism of “lost his battle with cancer” (rather than “died of cancer”), he said, “I’m not a doctor, but I’m pretty sure that if you die, the cancer dies at exactly the same time. So that, to me, that’s not a loss; that’s a draw.”

Juergen, your comment about film composers reminded me of this potent example of how important a film’s musical score can be for setting the tone of a scene:

What an interesting turn this conversation has taken! I’m generally guided by the Star Trek quote, “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.” I also think there’s a lot of wisdom in the old adage, “Your right to swing your fist ends where my face begins,” although I can imagine scenarios where the fist/face boundary gets a little fuzzy.

This is hysterical, Juergen! I think I remember seeing a couple of these commercials back when they originally aired.
Here is the first IMAX movie I ever saw. It may not look like much on a small flat screen, but you can imagine what the wraparound effect does for it:

Roger, that reminds me of what the Hitchhiker’s Guide said about flying: “The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.”

Ah, yes! Star Trek, Space: 1999, and Battlestar Galactica were all formative experiences for me as well. I was too young for Star Trek when it originally aired, but I watched Space: 1999 before Star Wars came along. It was about a moon colony that was sent into deep space when an explosion knocked the moon out of its orbit. A very typical 70’s sci-fi premise: utterly lost with no hope of salvation. Star Wars changed all that.
Battlestar Galactica was a TV series here, so I was surprised to hear that you saw it at the cinema. My brother recently went to one of those comic con things and got Dirk Benedict’s (Starbuck’s) autograph.
Hey, remember Tron? That was awesome as well, although now we’re getting into the early 80’s.
