Sadly, the vast majority of Electric Company material on YouTube has disappeared in the past few months. Most of it was posted by just a couple of people whose accounts seem to have vanished. I had thought that once something was on YouTube, it would live forever.

Thanks, Diana! Okay, here’s the Four Seasons song I mentioned in another thread:
WON”T YOU HURRY FOR ME
verse 1:
Can’t you see that you’re annoying me?
The others are all done, and you’re on number three.
And even though I am not timing this exam,
I really wish you’d scram. So won’t you hurry for me?
verse 2:
They were through around a quarter to,
And now I have to wait who knows how long for you.
This fear I will confide: I worry you’ll decide
To work until I’ve died. So won’t you hurry for me?
verse 3:
You keep on, though I begin to yawn.
I can’t resume my normal life until you’re gone.
Oh, if you only knew how much I wish that you
Would tell me that you’re through. So won’t you hurry for me?
Please hurry…
[instrumental break]
Hurry for me.
verse 4:
Listen, guy, you know it’s not that I
Don’t totally appreciate how hard you try.
But what is there to gain? The longer you remain,
You just increase the pain. So won’t you hurry for me?
verse 5:
Why don’t you pick up on any cue?
I have to do my laundry, and my rent is due.
Just look me in the eye, and surely you’ll see why
I wish you’d say goodbye. So won’t you hurry for me?
[repeat verse 3 and fade out]

I’ve written a lot of parodies about the woes of being a community college instructor. Here’s a Beatles parody that turned out pretty well:
YOU WON’T SEE ME
verse 1:
When I teach my class, you’re never there.
Don’t you want to pass? Why don’t you care?
I could be your friend, if you would just attend.
I cannot comprehend why you won’t see me.
You won’t see me.
verse 2:
If you need some aid, that’s why I’m here.
You’d improve your grade if you’d appear.
Let me lend a hand. That’s quite a small demand.
I cannot understand why you won’t see me.
You won’t see me.
bridge:
Time after time, you reject my erudition.
Why don’t you mind that you’re wasting your tuition?
verse 3:
Get the work you’ve missed. Come through my door.
Office hours exist. That’s what they’re for.
I could help you so, if you would only show.
I guess I’ll never know why you won’t see me.
You won’t see me.
bridge again:
Time after time, you reject my erudition.
Why don’t you mind that you’re wasting your tuition?
verse 4:
You reserved a space, but seldom came.
I don’t know your face. You’re just a name.
Don’t you feel upset, to think we’ve hardly met?
I really just don’t get why you won’t see me.
You won’t see me.

I wonder if there are any border towns where people just set their leftover fireworks from July 1st out on the curb for pickup by their southern neighbors.
-
In terms of the sheer number of songs that I enjoy singing along with, the Four Seasons are topped only by the Beatles. And Frankie is still touring at age 88!
-
The initial numbers for Here Comes the Sun, taken for the last hour of day 1 (July 3rd), are V = 15096 and C = 36.7. For July 4th, V = 21077 and C = 51.2 (an increase!). For July 5th, V = 9922 and C = 24.1. For July 6th, V = 13391 and C = 32.5 (another increase!). For July 7th, V = 10783 and C = 26.2.

I love all the hits of the Grass Roots, Diana, especially Midnight Confessions. I’ve never explored their album tracks, although I’ve been meaning to.
They performed in the first rock concert I ever attended, where they were one of three opening acts (along with Herman’s Hermits and Gary Puckett) for the Monkees in 1986.

Not a lot of movement in the numbers this month: a couple of videos went up significantly, and a couple down significantly, but the overall picture was pretty much unchanged.

Jung, I don’t think it’s truly live, because a while ago I watched the train pull into the final station, and then suddenly it was pulling out of the beginning station. So I think it’s a looped video, but somehow it’s displayed as a live stream.
The guy running the live chat is evasive about exactly when it was filmed. We’d all like to know whether this is what this region looks like in July, or if the footage is from the middle of winter. (Edit: now he’s stated that it was filmed in January.)
-
Nice, Tom!
When I attended my first Monkees concert I bought a souvenir program that included the lyrics to a few songs, so that even casual fans could sing along. And so help me, the lyrics for I’m a Believer said “when I needed sunshine on my brain”. Worst unintentional parody ever!
-
Me too. I thought the umbilical cord was a noose.
-
Wow, Diana, that’s incredible! I guess there are certain jobs where you just have to engage in gallows humor to maintain your sanity.
I’m looking forward to the parody challenge. I’ve written parodies of five original MLT songs, plus about half a dozen oldies that MLT happen to have covered.
-
I know that one well, Juergen, but had never seen a video of it before. Those 1978 clothes the kids are wearing really feel familiar!
-
That’s one of the singalongiest ones, Diana! Long ago I wrote a parody of it dealing with one of the frustrating aspects of being a teacher. (It’s one of over two dozen such parodies I’ve authored over the years. Subtopic: songs of despair.) It’s about an instructor who generously offers to allow students to take as long as they want on an exam, and there’s still one there an hour after everyone else has gone. The title is Won’t You Hurry for Me.
