Thanks, Tom! Great to be able to listen to Paul’s involvement behind the scenes in crafting this great song.

Here’s another terrific tune he produced for a different artist around that same time:

Hey, Diana! I’m leaving on the 18th and returning on the 26th. Depending on how busy I’m keeping, I might be a little less productive here in the club during that time.

I was just thinking of another way to interpret the “not about love” idea: how about songs that one might choose specifically to kill a romantic mood? In that case, this one would feature prominently in my playlist:

Diana, I remember as a kid complaining that everything on the easy-listening radio station that my mom always had on was nothing but yucky love songs. Fortunately I’ve expanded my repertoire considerably since then. There are hundreds I could choose from, but this one would probably rank near the top of my list:

Happy Mothers’ Day to all the moms in the MLT club, and to the mothers of all the club members!

Not that any of us still need to learn this lesson at this point in our lives, but here’s a very poignant song about the importance of being good to your mother:

    Continuing to count on Count on Me, for May 7th, V = 6067 and C = 16.9. (Still going up!) For May 8th, V = 3635 and V = 10.1. For May 9th, V = 1606 and C = 4.48. (Quite a roller coaster we’ve got going here!) For May 10th, V = 1095 and C = 3.06. And for May 11th, V = 842 and C = 2.35.

Okay, I’ll be doing weekly reports on this one now.

This song is originally from a Danny Kaye movie, but I know it from Sesame Street. There is counterpoint not only musically, but also lyrically (science vs. art):

Jung, it sounds like Kristy introduced you to the oldies in the same way that Shaun Cassidy introduced me. (Same hairstyle too!) This is very embarrassing to watch now, but here’s one of his girl group covers:

A classic, Jung! I remember the 1988 revival of The Loco-motion. Little Eva was the babysitter for Gerry Goffin and Carole King, who wrote the song.

This is probably my favorite from that era, also written by Goffin and King. It almost has a Phil Spector “wall of sound” feel to it:

The original Marvelettes recording was the first version I ever heard, and I still consider it to be the definitive one, although there’s absolutely nothing sub-par about any of the covers. I’m just a huge fan of the girl groups of the early 60’s, and I instinctively defend that turf.

I can’t put my finger on why MLT’s cover of this song is the perpetual YouTube champion. Perhaps people watch it for the first time because they’re curious to see how the two different songs are stitched together. And maybe repeat viewers enjoy watching the awesome drum solo. I’m just trying to think of some aspect that makes this one unique.

We might be able to build a case for that with some hard data, Tomas. For example, 10% of the views of Drive My Car have occurred just in the last eight months since I started recording the numbers. That video is nine years old and has had plenty of time to “settle down”, but if the viewing rates had been flat all that time, the number for the last eight months would be only 7%.

When I have a little more time I may explore this further with other videos.

I had a milder issue with that same song, Jung. Back when I only knew the Shaun Cassidy version, I thought the first line was “if everybody had a notion”. But Mike Love cleared that up for me immediately.

Have fun on your trip, Jung!

There are a couple of roundabouts on my college campus. They’re easy to navigate when there isn’t any other traffic around, but you really have to keep your head about you when it’s busy. And the difficulty is compounded when there are multiple lanes.

Not to divert the topic of this thread too much, but are you familiar with the diverging diamond interchange? I’ve been through a couple of them, and they take a little getting used to, but they really improve the flow of traffic where a busy surface street intersects with a freeway:

Hey, Juergen! It’s Monty Python’s “Traffic Lights”. Here’s another posting of it:
