Can’t forget these guys:
-
I love how the vocals and the instrumentation are woven together in this one:

For me 1967 is the peak year of pop music: the Monterey Pop Festival, the Summer of Love, etc. So much creativity and exuberance! I could probably list a hundred songs from that year that I love, but I’ll start with one that I don’t think has come up here before:
-
Over the past week, the numbers for Good Day Sunshine are V = 1950 and C = 3.50. Meanwhile, Questionable is at V = 1573 and C = 4.19: still going strong after seven weeks!
-
Is that you, Diana?
I just discovered this song a couple of days ago purely by chance (i.e., unrelated to a YouTube algorithm):
-
This just showed up in my recommendations list. It actually sounds pretty good!
-
Assuming current viewing rates continue, which is of course (ahem…) questionable, Questionable will overtake I Bought Myself a Politician sometime late next month.
-
On a related note, I was thinking how cool it would be if MLT provided us with a small set of photos and let us vote on one or two for inclusion in next year’s calendar. Hopefully one of them would be a performance shot of Lisa and the Monettes.

Mike Love says the Beach Boys sound of that song was inspired by a conversation he had with Paul right after Paul played a work-in-progress version for him while both were hanging out with the Maharishi:

I discovered him after he released his first album in 1983, about a year before I got into the Beatles. I was mired in a swamp of contemporary music that I couldn’t stand, and I viewed Al’s stuff (wrongly, perhaps) as making fun of modern artists and poking holes in their pretentiousness. Even now, almost every year I hear the original of an Al parody for the first time and I sing the “wrong” words along with it.
Here’s a notable track from his first album:

Guess I’ll move my prognostications over here! Lynn, you inspired me to do this. I love marking milestones of all types, and I realized the numbers I’m generating lend themselves to a milestone forecast. I think of it as a monthly planner for little celebrations, but the dates still need to be fine-tuned on the fly due to variations in daily viewing rates.
Here are the milestone predictions for the next month or so:
Blackbird: 500,000 views on Apr. 5th
Once Upon a Time: 200,000 views on Apr. 6th
Questionable: 200,000 views on Apr. 7th
Drive My Car: 6,000,000 views on Apr. 12th
Lazy Sunday Afternoon: 100,000 views on Apr. 20th
Sound of Silence: 500,000 views on Apr. 23rd
I’ll Be Back: 900,000 views on Apr. 23rd
Lola: 700,000 views on Apr. 27th
My Generation: 200,000 views on Apr. 30th

This is actually a cover of a Stevie Wonder song!

Jung, I was so elated to see MLT cover a Monkees song! If they ever do another, I hope it’s Pleasant Valley Sunday (also from 1967). I love the electric guitar riff at the beginning (actually played by Michael Nesmith and not a session guy), the chaotic ending, and the non-standard lyrical topic:
-
Jacki would know better than I, but I think this is just about the only time we ever got to hear Michelle’s solo singing voice.
-
Me too, Diana. I enjoyed being able to post two of their songs a year or two ago when for some reason we were trying to come up with songs with “bell” in the title.
