Juergen, doo-wop is a style of music popular in the U.S. in the 1950’s. I don’t know exactly how to define it, but I know it when I hear it. Basically it’s smooth group vocals with lots of nonsense syllables in the backing parts. This song is one of the best-known examples:

When I was in graduate school in the late 1980’s I was lucky enough to catch a concert on campus featuring the Penguins, the Coasters, and the Drifters, minus a few members who had either died or retired. As I exited the building after the show, I was stunned to see all the performers in the lobby standing behind tables from which they were selling their own merchandise.

Such a strong message for 1963! I’d love to see MLT put their spin on this song.
