I hope I’m not duplicating any examples I came up with the last time we discussed song intros, but this is one of my very favorites. It never fails to get me immediately smiling and bobbing my head.

That “four mustaches” comment reminds me of something John said in a 1969 interview that I came across a couple of years ago. I’ll have to paraphrase because I can’t track it down again, but it was essentially this:
“Five years ago we worked so hard to look exactly alike, with the suits and the hairstyles. But now? Well, this month I’m the one with the beard, George is the one with the mustache, and Paul is the one with the long hair. This morning Ringo came into the studio with a whole new head.”

Love it.Well, Tom, I’m no expert in physiology, but I’m pretty sure anything that causes the eardrum to vibrate is processed by the brain as sound (and hence is heard), regardless of how the waves get there. There are still the sensations of pitch and volume. It’s possible to press your ear to the wall and understand what is being said in the next room. But I’d welcome other input on this.

Love it.Tom, I heard somewhere (probably in one of the videos posted on this site) that Beethoven eventually sawed the legs off his piano and put his ear to the floor while he played. This would have allowed him to hear the vibrations directly through solid materials, which transmit sound waves much more efficiently than the air.

Wow, Roger, you really put me to shame there. In my defense, I’m not familiar with most of these songs. I’ve heard Queenie Eye, but I didn’t think of it. I did think of Quinn the Eskimo, but I didn’t realize that it had ever been released under any title other than The Mighty Quinn.

Okay, this one may be a little pedantic, but I’m gonna throw it in because it’s just so doggone adorable.

Well, I was thinking specifically of English language examples, but yes, it becomes much easier if we include Spanish. The first ones I thought of were “Que Sera, Sera” by Doris Day and “Quando, Quando, Quando” by Pat Boone.

Diana, you must have flipped over the episode of the Monkees that guest-starred Bobby Sherman!

Love it.The connection between music and emotion is to me one of the most interesting questions in psychology. Consonance and dissonance kind of make sense, but why certain types of chords seem to correlate with feelings of happiness, sadness, etc. across all cultures is baffling.

Till There Was You: 1,000,000 views on Feb. 22nd
Michelle: 200,000 views on Feb. 28th
And that’s it! Strange how the milestones cluster like that.

I’ll throw in with She’s Leaving Home also. When MLT asked us to name three songs we’d like to play for aliens, I included that one because of its emotional intensity.
It’s hard to come up with an abbreviated list of the most emotional songs. Sad songs affect me the most, and there are a lot that do the trick. I suppose I could suggest Puff the Magic Dragon for the umpteenth time.
Tangentially, the title of this post reminds me of the actual title of a DDDBM&T album: “If Music Be the Food of Love… Prepare for Indigestion”.

And speaking further of Annette and Monkees:

This is from the Monkees’ feature film “Head”.

Yeah, but for the sake of the joke I was thinking of the ancient format without instrumentation:

Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese… The task will be simpler in any of those Romance languages where most of the interrogative pronouns begin with q. Even Latin. (Anyone know any good Gregorian chants?)
Interesting video, by the way, Juergen. That forearm keyboard can be added to your topic of unusual musical instruments!
