Continuing with Tonight You Belong to Me, for Jan. 28th, V = 8887 and C = 16.0. For Jan. 29th, V = 6105 and C = 11.0. And for Jan. 30th, V = 4223 and C = 7.62. Meanwhile, for Songbird (averaged over the past week), V = 506 and C = 1.39.
Next weekend: updated top 20 lists for January.
Jeffery, Jung, and Lynn, thanks for your comments! I agree, Jung, that MLT’s covers, while superb in their own right, are also instrumental in bringing new fans into the fold. I’ve discovered a lot of other artists through their Beatle covers, although none other than MLT has impressed me with their original material.
I’m entering the data for all the YouTube videos into a spreadsheet now, so just let me know if you ever want a status report on any video that’s outside the top 20.

I only had one real showbiz crush, and it came very early: I was seven and she was thirteen. It was June Angela from The Electric Company. And watching clips of the show nearly fifty years later, I can conclude I had good judgment. She was vivacious and multitalented (acting/singing/dancing), and had the brightest smile I’ve ever seen.

I’m one of you, Tim. Provided I’m not otherwise occupied on Friday, I keep refreshing the clubhouse page in hopes of having something new to click on, and then seeing that pristine “be the first to comment” at the bottom of the page.
Sometimes I even check it on Thursday evening, reasoning that it’s technically already Friday in England, although they never rush to publish like that.

JP, yes, the Hot Fudge Show was a Saturday morning kids’ show in the mid-70’s, and as far as I can tell I’m the only person who ever watched it and survived with the memory intact. It actually wasn’t very good, but it aired locally at 7 AM before any of the other channels started showing cartoons, so it had no competition.

Hey, Juergen. I’m sure I’ve heard all the songs on McCartney II at some point, but the only ones I really know are Waterfalls and Coming Up, because of the videos on MTV. The album came out about five years before I got into the Beatles.
The Rheinfall looks nice: about the same height as Cumberland Falls, but in a much more urban area. I didn’t realize that Europe doesn’t have a lot of high waterfalls. I assumed that snowmelt in the Alps might contribute something at least seasonally.

I think Waterfalls is one of Paul’s most underrated solo songs.
Speaking of underrated waterfalls, here’s one in my home state of Kentucky that I’ve visited many times. For scale, the vertical drop is 68 feet (21 meters).

Here’s something that gives you a perspective on the size of that canyon:

Dang, JP, what did you put in that fudge? I was expecting the classic Supreme recipe.
Here’s a taste of the groovy type of fudge I consumed as a kid:

This river song is originally by Peter, Paul & Mary, but this version from the movie “Airplane!” is more fun to watch:

Thanks for those videos about the Mona Lisa, Jung. Count me among those who had always wondered why that painting was considered such a masterpiece. It’s never seemed all that spectacular to me, but given what an improvement it was on the techniques of the time, I can now see why it would have made a huge splash. Then at some later point it entered the category of “famous for being famous”. I’m guessing that the reverence shown to Shakespeare has followed a similar trajectory.

Yes, Juergen, for some reason songs about teenage romance that ended in the death of one or both parties were quite popular in the U.S. back then. Most of them seem kind of corny and/or contrived now, but for me this one is still a tearjerker. (And in keeping with the theme of this topic, water plays a key role, just as it does in Running Bear.)

For the past week, Songbird is at V = 488 and C = 1.34. And making its YouTube premiere, Tonight You Belong to Me opens at V = 16656 and C = 30.1, based on data collected over just the last hour.
I for one am delighted to see MLT reach back into the archives a bit for their latest YouTube posting. It makes me wonder what other “oldies” might get to enjoy a second life with a much larger audience.
Now for the daily updates on TYBTM. For Jan. 24th, V = 10430 and C = 18.8. For Jan. 25th, V = 7467 and C = 13.5. For Jan. 26th, V = 8998 and C = 16.2. (It went up!) For Jan. 27th, V = 8539 and C = 15.4.

Jung, I read every message that gets posted in the forums. (I play whack-a-mole with “new posts”.) If I feel I have something to say on the topic, I respond, and if I don’t, I don’t. As long as MLT doesn’t object (and they haven’t so far), I’m okay with a proliferation of discussion topics. The only incentive to end a thread might be if it becomes a monologue. That being said, I have found very few of your contributions to be unworthy of engagement.

Yeah, “tearjerker” is an informal expression for anything that makes you want to cry.
I’ve read that the popularity of this type of song at that time may be related to the deaths of young icons such as James Dean and Buddy Holly. Many of them involved car crashes.

Ah, I hadn’t thought of Running Bear in quite a while! I used to have a cassette of all those “teen tragedy” songs of the late 50’s / early 60’s: Last Kiss, Tell Laura I Love Her, Teen Angel, Patches, Leader of the Pack, Dead Man’s Curve, Moody River, etc. For some reason the melodrama has always appealed to me.
