  • We can agree to disagree.

  • Any time there is a debate between people who all mean well but are going in different directions is to take the conversation to a next step….what do each of us offer as solutions to the issue. We live in a Post-Fact media culture and many have opinions about just about everything in just about a nano-second. Conspiracy Theories proliferate with little or no factual merit. To one person the other is drinking the Kool-Aid and visa versa. But many of those that point out the issues with very strong opinions really don’t offer any realistic solutions . Not being a Canadian or living there I can’t feel just as you do Tobias but living in the US many of your feelings are shared here as well by some. I will earnestly listen to anyone on any topic and what their opinion is as long as they remain universally fact/science based, un-partison and wanting to find a solution for everyone…not just rail against the main stream. That’s too easy. The hard part is finding viable solutions. When I protested the Vietnam War I had a solution..get out!! When I went to court to protest some traffic tickets I had a solution…don’t put speed traps in places to maximize collecting revenue but at intersections that are dangerous. When it comes to everyday democracy I’ll speak my mind in a civil manner and vote when it is time. When it comes to the last couple of years it’s been very hard to have definate solutions because the issues have been extremely complex. Decisions though do have to be made. We can’t all lead and each of us doesn’t have all the answers. I don’t think anyone wants to follow another over the cliff. But we all have voices and in many countries a vote…and eventually we have to choose who/what we believe. Living in a mostly free society I am free to express my opinions and offer solutions. At the end of the day I will choose to believe in those whom I trust and believe with what I call “an open mind”. If I am wrong, then I will be wrong. But I will always strive to keep intercourse open with those with whom I disagree in order to do as the Beatles suggest “Come Together”.

    Welcome James!!

  • Jung…agreed on your last post. We need to be free as individuals but not purely in just self interest. Otherwise there is chaos. We need to care for the welfare of the entire group. Obviously this gets tricky and problematic as we all have our own opinions. But sometimes, as a group, we need to make unilateral decisions that are for the best of the group, not necessarily for what an individual thinks. Where to draw the line can be extremely hard sometimes but in my opinion must be done.

I too am going back as a new member and catching up with it all. I just read Lisa’s ideas of what music/art are and agree wholeheartedly that there probably isn’t a better take on it anywhere else in this universe. I played music for many years but wisely decided to pursue other ways of making a living. I was in the music business for 16 years..Practice,Practice, Practice!! Never had the disapline so playing/creating music has always been 2nd or 3rd to just being involved and listening and supporting music constantly. It’s comforting to have a few guitars and an amp around but I listen to others 95% of the time. From 10 year old prodigies to the old reliables there is so much to take in. There is talent everywhere and wonderful gems sprinkled in. The MLT’s are one of the gems!!!

Couldn’t agree with you more. Music can be magical! The girls as young children keep faith/hope alive for us all with their pure joy and curiosity. Let’s hope that 2023 brings much more good than bad. Happy New Year!!!

I have watched “All I want Christmas to Be” so many times I believe I almost have the lyrics memorized. I show it to everyone that will watch it. The curiosity and joy in the twins eyes is wonderful and takes me back to earlier days when we were all more innocent. Papa Rudi has done a great job in filming the girls as they have grown up and every video they have with older footage in it is a joy. Hoping there is still more to come!!

  • I am a big fan of Clapton was but dissapointed in his views on vaccines. As this is, I believe, is not suppose to be a political forum I will keep that remark just as it is with nothing additional added.

Dylan is my all-time favorite when it comes to speaking his mind. Pete Seeger and many of the Folk music groups of the 60’s didn’t hesitate to state their feelings about Big Business and Big Government. Zappa did as well but sometimes a bit pompously. The Kinks and the Zombies always had something to say as well. As for present day music I am not really tuned into it so I am not able to add current musicians.

As I grow older the value of not letting others rent space out in my brain that leads to bad feelings gets much stronger. Artist and the people do need to stand and express their feelings (on all sides of the discussion). I just don’t need to let myself get emotionally wrapped up in the madness. Somehow we need as a global people to become more open to compromise. As Why? so elequently states “That it’s never been something between you and me”!!

  • I love the ending of Trains Plane & Automobiles. Still brings a tear to my eyes. National Lampoon is also great.

  • Thx for the reply. Not sure they were referring to vaccines in their music but lyrics can be interpreted in different ways by different folk. I do love the fact that the girls take on issues that are relevant and that their songs usually have excellent lyrics. There isn’t much music out there today that accomplishes what theirs does. Artistry/Soul/Happiness/Thought provoking/Slapstick and just good clean fun. They have something to say, aren’t afraid to say it but don’t have to be profane to make a point. I’m not a prude by any measure but I do get tired of what people have to sing/say when it’s peppered with profanity. Their latest song has a tremondous amount to say but leaves it to the listener to decide what that is.

Just simply amazed at all the Love/Smiles/Tears the MLT’s generate from this great community. David….really a tremendous job of gathering these stats!! I am fairly new so I am still catching up with all the different discussion threads.

  • I really miss him. He was a joy and so many of his movies made me laugh and/or tear up.
