Hi all;
I hesitate to say this but the music critic in me is starting to come out. If all four had been around to record the song today, I believe they would have flipped it from a minor key to a major key. Also, I believe John would have double-tracked his vocals which he was prone to do in the old days. The ending would have been a George slide-guitar outtro but ending on the same note as the orchestra did. But, who am I to say that the Beatles could have done it better or different. It’s just my take on it. Other than that……..it is the Beatles and that is fine with me.

1) She Loves You — This song changed RnR all by itself. The vocals are really sung chords by the main three Beatles. The guitar chords are unusual. The note patterns are a throw-back to the 1940s. I could go on, but the song turned popular music on its head.
2) Something — I don’t think there is a better love song written until you consider….
3) If I Fell — The harmonies are so great in this song between Paul and John. The lyrics are straight to the heart. Also, MLT did a fantastic job on this cover.
4) Long Tall Sally – Good basic RnR song. The screams are even in tune.
5) Here, There, and Everywhere — Another great one in the list of love songs. Can you tell I kinda like silly love songs???

I had to turn lights on in the house around 4 PM each day. Yesterday the AQI was in the moderate zone which showed some clearing and today It has cleared out. Mike

The song could have many interpretations concerning interpersonal relationships, dealing with the government, or dealing with the music industry……….which they opted not to do so. Sounds like one of those lovable, intentionally vague, MLT songs. Mike.

We were mesmerized by all of Sgt. Peppers when it was released. We were 14 at the time and the first time through listening to it the “gang” and I just stared at it at the final E chord in A Day in The Life. We could not understand what we had just heard. But, we played it every day after school at a friend’s house multiple times a night. After awhile, though still good, we had it pretty much memorized to the point where we had a mime play to go with She’s Leaving Home. Each of us had parts and we would make each other laugh by doing the mime and maybe changing the parts just to get to each other.

Sina is a great drummer…..I don’t care for some of her musical selections, but she plays the drums with abandon. She has a little bit of Buddy Rich in her. And her technique is great.

I understand maybe the minor key and the visuals is making me sad a bit because the video makes us wistfully look back at how it used to be. There is a back story to the song. Rumor has it that the last thing John said to Paul in person as Paul was leaving the Dakotas (or maybe it was on the phone) was to ask Paul to “Think of him (John) ever now and then, old friend.” I believe it was in 1978 according to what I read. A few years later Carl Perkins was recording with Paul in Scotland and wrote a song while there that contained the line to think of him now and then, old friend. It made Paul cry some and IMHO Paul was not going to change the basic of this song (Now and Then) because of the meaning to him of it and who said what in the past.

I was just thinking that most of the Beatles’ songs were in major keys and was generally “happy music”. I cannot think of a song they did in a minor key except maybe ‘Baby’s in Black’. Also, I was speculating if all four were around and could bounce ideas off of each other.

I had the blue and red Beatles 8-tracks when they were released and played them at the pizza place where I worked as background music for the workers and customers. It got to the point where everyone got tired of the 8-tracks except for me. Mike.

Well, some could lie on the application form and say ‘just once a day’.

No problem. Gordon deserves multiple posts.

I remember when “If You Could Read My Mind” was a huge hit in 1970. The immediate memory is that I was 17 years old singing it to myself as I walked in the snow to my part-time job. I knew the song was special then……but I was more into James Taylor then. I had a guitar playing buddy back then,,,,,,,he and I would “argue” about who was better: Gordon Lightfoot or James Taylor. Either one would win. Mike.

I think a good one for MLT would be his song “Beautiful”. It would be light and could have some good harmonies going with MLT. Mike.
