    Hi;

    I have a story, too.  I was in a garage band during late 1960s/early 1970s and played drums.  I practiced drums everyday faithfully at home before band practice in a real garage of a friend….really his parents garage.  One time when I started practicing drums I went into a drum riff that was loud and all of a sudden.  Houses where I grew up were very close together and I did not know that one neighbor was up on a ladder to reach the second story of his house.  He later told me that when I started the drum riff, it startled him so much he almost fell off the ladder.  That likely would have left a mark on him.  It didn’t help matters that he was an older cousin of mine, too, because he complained to my parents also.  So, thankfully, the house I live in now is separated from the neighbors a little more so they are not frightened by the sounds coming from the house.  Mike.

    Hi Jung;

    The 1888 guitar……the tone is amazing.  The low notes sound better than any Martin and the high notes are so pure.  I would be afraid of even holding that guitar for fear of screwing it up.  The only thing I can relate to the instrument that is close by is that my wife has a 1796 violin that she plays on special occasions.  It also sounds “other-worldly” like the 1888 guitar.  And, it also helps that the guitarist is a master.  Mike.

    Every song is a memory for me during the 1960s and 1970s……and there are so many songs above that brings back a time that was simpler and was filled with so many feelings that I could write a book about them….well, maybe a short story.  Maybe that is what music is supposed to do, in part.  Thank you guys for the posts.  Mike

    Hi all;

    I agree.  It is one of my favorites from the Orange album.  It sounds like an early ’70s song and has that singer-songwriter feel.  From the time I first heard it, I very much like the song.  Mike.

    Hi Jung;

    We lived in the Pacific NW from 2002 to 2008 (Vancouver, WA…..not BC) and I worked in Portland, OR (not a place to be right now) and it rained constantly from October to around April.  It got to the point where I just did not use an umbrella and just got wet.  Most people did that because we just got tired of lugging around umbrellas each day.  The summers were great (high temps and low humidity) and the scenery is great (Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier).  We moved there from Chicago and people in Chicago told me it was not fun there because of it raining all the time.  My comeback was that at least I would not have to shovel rain.  Mike.

    Mona;

    A great, thoughtful answer.  Many musicians I speak to have gone independent or are on Blue Elan which is very much a “hands-off” recording company.  In the 1970s there were so many “horror” stories about musicians and record companies.  So, I would vote to keep MLT as a cottage company (as if I have a vote!!) and from what I have seen it has worked out well so far.

    Hi all;

    My two cents…….it happens a good bit with artists who know and play against each other…..Stephen Stills and Neil Young, Bernie Leadon and Joe Walsh, Keith Richards and Mick Taylor, etc.  I am not in or close to any of the above’s class or in the MLT class, but I had a guitar buddy and we would play off of each other often.  He would do something and look over at me as if to say, “OK, now what are you going to do about that!!”.  And I would answer him on my playing……before long it turns into a jam session.  More recently I have done it with a piano player.  It is fun to do and keeps us on our toes and leads to music that we didn’t think was possible.  Mike.

    Always liked the Addams Family more because Morticia was more my style.  Also, like Warren’s music.  His mind was in a whole different location.  Mike.

    California sound?????  If you include those who were in Laurel Canyon during the 1960s, then it would be Beach Boys, M and P, Jan and Dean, Eagles, Jackson Browne, CSN(Y), Buffalo Springfield, Byrds, the San Fran groups and singers (Jimi, Janis, Grateful Dead, et al), James Taylor, Joni, and a bunch of others.  Also, there was a Riverside, CA wing of country music.  So many to choose from.  Mike.

    When I first heard She Loves You I was 10 years old and it stopped me in my tracks.  Music had never sounded like that before.  Then a few years went by and I saw the sheet music and understood why.  The chords and notes are not according to traditional music theory……and that was a good thing.  The Beatles could not really read music…….they just composed what sounded good to them.  Then they had George Martin to straighten things out when needed…..   So, I have always liked She Loves You more then I Want To Hold Your Hand…Can’t tell you why, but it has always caught my ear more.  Mike.

    Hi Jacki;

    Prior to Vince Gill being in PPL the lead singer was Craig Fuller and he wrote some good ones, too.  The best one is Falling In and Out of Love/Amie.  Craig basically wrote the first two PPL albums and are definitely the best ones in my opinion.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tu8v0aGOONA

    Hi Jacki;

    If you were raised on country, then you might like a genre called country-rock.  Those would be songs by Poco, Pure Prairie League and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.  Also, some songs by Eagles are country rock and songs by Marshall Tucker and the Outlaws are classified are country/southern rock.  I discovered one band in England from the 1970s that did country rock called Unicorn and was totally surprised.  There is a pocket in England that enjoys country rock……a current artist in the country rock class is Frank Walsh.

    Check it out if you have some time…..

    Also, under the class of trivia time and it’s a small world………I grew up 20 miles from Patsy Cline and was born in the same hospital as she was……only 20 years later.  So, I guess I had little choice in the country influence on me.

    Hi Bill;

    You are welcome.  Their Beatles covers have been on the Sirius Beatles Channel a few times over the last two years……not as often as I would like…..but I really enjoyed it that they were on today.  It is also a good thing because it shows that Sirius considers them to be serious cover artists for Beatles’ songs.  Peter Asher, who has a weekly show on the channel, likes them and he plays their cover songs once it a while.  Mike.

    Hi Lisa:

    When it comes to half finished songs, I sometimes go back to another one that is half finished and the two parts fit……..it does not happen often, but it works sometimes.  Mike.
