The only songs that definitively say summer to me is Beach Boys tunes (even Little Saint Nick!), but my Beach Boys list would be more like: “Wouldn’t it Be Nice”, “In My Room”, “Girls on The Beach”, and “Don’t Worry Baby”.
Buffalo Springfield “For what It’s Worth” is definitely summer to me along with “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison.
The rest of it is just kind of jumbled together with no other tunes that really cover summer Probably because a lot of the time was spent outdoors in places where there was no “good” radio stations.
I like Jacki’s list, except for “Summer of ’69”. I never did care for that tune probably because my Summer of ’69 consisted of two weeks between graduation and reporting for basic training.

Funny – that just popped up in my YouTube feed too. I’ve seen it before but it’s always interesting. And the CEO is always pretty approachable. If you hang out on the Forum on their website John will usually answer a question if he’s asked or step into the discussion if something needs clarification. That’s the advantage to dealing with a family owned company.

I thought this was going to go all Monty Python and instead it went Hitchhikers Guide! I’ll just say that Music isn’t just the meaning, it is life.

I have a Ric too – a vintage 360-12, but with high gains rather than “toasters”. He’s right about the neck – it does take a bit of adaptation to play, particularly if you’re switching guitars frequently. The 5th knob also acts as a mixer when you use the stereo jack. Rics have two output jacks – one mono and the other stereo, which allows you to send the neck pickup to one amp and the bridge pickup to a different amp or amp channel.

Probably the Museum District first, then one of the parks a1ong Buffalo Bayou, then down to NASA. The rest of it we’d just play by ear, but probably a trip down to Galveston would also be in order.

My fav would still have to be the one that got me here: “You’re Gonna Lose That Girl”, but “Wish You Were Here” is a close second.

I picked it up the day it was released. The first and last tracks are GREAT, but they’re pretty much the same tune. The rest of it is kind of muddy and sounds a little like Paul was bored and just went into the studio to noodle around, then came out with an album. There are some tracks that have a lot more potential but just didn’t get fully developed. My other overriding impression is that, at 78 years old, Paul is losing his voice.

We’re having a couple friends over Christmas Eve to decorate the tree and then light real candles on it. Then probably hang out and sing Christmas carols in the front yard. They’re bringing their accordions over and I’m trying to decide if I can get away with playing the harmonica with them or if I should just grab a guitar. Christmas Day we’ll be by ourselves, eating well, unwrapping gifts, and facetiming with the grandkids.

Yep – singing in the car is a must – I always come back from road trips with a stronger voice. So far, I can sing along with everything I’ve tried from MLT. For now, the only one I can’t hang with is Freddie Mercury. (But I’m getting older…)

I’m pretty sure there’s already a YouTube video where he talks about it.

I grew up with the Broadway sound track o fThe Music Man so “Till There Was You” has been in my life since before the Beatles did it. My wife and I sang it as a duet at our wedding and we’ve occasionally sung it when friends have requested it. The MLT version is a very nice interpretation, one of my favorites. As for Paul and the “sawr” it may have come from Peggy Lee’s version, which is what inspired Paul to add it to their set list. They used it on the DECCA Sessions which pre-date their signing with EMI, and he sings it with the “R” sound there too. Here’s Peggy Lee’s version; if you listen, she sings “sawr” on the “…no I never saw them at all…” line:

I have a particular fondness for “She Loves You’ and “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” since I got extra credit points in German class for learning the German language versions. I wonder if MLT could be persuaded to do a Duo Session of one (or both) in German?

Pick your favorite John Lennon songs is like “pick your favorite child” but if I had to commit to one it would be this one:

I’ve seen “Once Were Brothers”, I have a copy in my video library along with “No Direction Home” and “The Last Waltz”. Nobody does rock documentaries like Scorsese. If you’re into Dylan, watch “Rolling Thunder Review” – another Scorsese film but not a true documentary. It’s documentary footage, but only loosely factual.

It just takes a hammer, nails, some wire, and a couple pieces of wood. (BTW, the movie is great if you haven’t seen it!)
