You are lucky you had an older sibling with good taste in music. As for needing a coke to wash away a bad aftertaste, I reckon you’d need something to wash away the coke. Coca Cola is as fake as Santa Claus and together they represent the worst of corporate commercial greed! Celebrating Christmas this way is fine if you’re a pagan.
Prior to Christianization, the Germanic peoples (including the English) celebrated a midwinter event called Yule (Old English geola or giuli). Wodan’s (aka Odin) role during the Yuletide period has been theorized as having influenced concepts of St. Nicholas in a variety of facets, including his long white beard and his gray horse for nightly rides (compare Odin’s horse Sleipnir) or his reindeer in North American tradition.
Folklorist Margaret Baker maintains that “the appearance of Santa Claus or Father Christmas, whose day is the 25th of December, owes much to Odin, the old blue-hooded, cloaked, white-bearded Giftbringer of the north, who rode the midwinter sky on his eight-footed steed Sleipnir, visiting his people with gifts. … Odin, transformed into Father Christmas, then Santa Claus, prospered with St Nicholas and the Christchild, became a leading player on the Christmas stage.”

I know when he commenced at the Club he was a prolific poster but always said he would withdraw after a few weeks when he was satisfied the Club was going to thrive. It is thriving and he is either quiet or ‘has left the building’, so to speak!

Yes. Most impressive Tomás. Didn’t realise you were a poet too. Does this mean Jacki now has some serious competition?

Thanks for that Jacki. Very sixties psychedelic!

“So if you like to discuss a certain aspect of a question or anything else feel free to open a topic in “General Discussion”. Thanks for the clarification Rudolf. That’s what I was trying to say in my own clumsy way.

Thanks for all your efforts with the “Ask The MonaLisa Twins” Forum moderation, Rudi, Mona and Michaela. I’m sure it’s much appreciated by many club members.
For members who like to share their knowledge and the knowledge of others in this club, can I suggest that you try Tim’s suggestion of creating a Topic in ‘General Discussion’ to address answers to ‘Ask the MonaLisa Twins’ questions. This way members can share knowledge with other members who are interested, while members who aren’t are free to ignore. This has worked well in the past.

I’m not surprised you were broke most of the time Bob. Butlers and Bentleys don’t come cheap!

Wow Greg! Purchasing records from Drug stores and Safeway. Unheard of at the time where I come from. The only place to purchase records was at record bars which all had listening booths with headphones. I still remember the time as a schoolboy in 1968, listening to the Rolling Stones ‘Beggars Banquet’ on headphones in a record bar in Adelaide Street, Brisbane and the buzz of hearing ‘Street Fighting Man’ (really loud) for the first time. This is track 6, the first track of the second side of their Decca recording. Such memories.
“Time magazine described the Stones as “England’s most subversive roisterers since Fagin’s gang in Oliver Twist” and added: “In keeping with a widespread mood in the pop world, Beggars Banquet turns back to the raw vitality of Negro R&B and the authentic simplicity of country music.” “Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone considered that the band’s regeneration marked the return of rock’n’roll, while the Chicago Sun-Times declared: “The Stones have unleashed their rawest, rudest, most arrogant, most savage record yet. And it’s beautiful.”
No, I don’t expect a cover of “Street Fighting Man’ or ‘Sympathy For the Devil’ from Mona and Lisa any time soon! Even though I know it really would be something incomparable!

I think you might have him confused with his bush brother who also had a penchant for the expression ‘fair dinkum, cobber’!

So lovely. You got there in the end Jacki. Thanks for sharing and best Christmas wishes to you too!

I know Bob. One of my nephews was a butler for one of your neighbours, a few houses down the road. They didn’t have a Bentley though. Preferred one of this big American gas guzzlers!

Don’t worry Jacki, it’s the thought that counts and some smart member will probably have the solution for you!
