I’ll see if I can copy the article to this site, Jung. It’s from his tour of Australia three years ago.

I’m with you on this one Jung. I purchased their follow up second international single “Massachusetts”, on 45rpm vinyl in 1967. I had earlier that year bought their first Australian single “Spicks and Specks”. “Massachusetts” was their first UK # 1. I was a fan of their music from 1966 until the early seventies.

”New York Mining Disaster 1941″ is the debut American single by the British-Australian pop group the Bee Gees, released on 14 April 1967. It was written by Barry and Robin Gibb and was the first single release of the group’s international career and their first song to hit the charts in both the UK and the US.

To me, the song is reminiscent of the MLTs ”Count On Me”, which Lisa similarly commenced writing during a power black out.

    The following is from Wikipedia:

”Barry and Robin Gibb wrote “New York Mining Disaster 1941“ while sitting on a darkened staircase at Polydor Records following a power cut. The echo of the passing lift inspired them to imagine that they were trapped in a mine. The song recounts the story of a miner trapped in a cave-in. He is sharing a photo of his wife with a colleague (“Mr. Jones”) while they hopelessly wait to be rescued.

At the time, rumours circulated that the Bee Gees were The Beatles
recording under a pseudonym (the Bee Gees’ name was alleged to be code for “Beatles Group”), in part because the record referenced NEMS Enterprises (Brian Epstein’s management agency, which had just been joined by Bee Gees’ manager Robert Stigwood).

Atco distributed promos with a blank label and the suggestion that it was an English group whose name started with B. Many DJs thought it was a new Beatles song and played the song heavily. Atco also retitled the song “New York Mining Disaster 1941 (Have You Seen My Wife, Mr. Jones?)” to make sure people could find it in the shops.

Beatles lead guitarist George Harrison met Maurice Gibb at a party several years later, and told him that he had bought a copy of “New York Mining Disaster 1941” because he thought it sounded so much like The Beatles. Maurice’s response to Harrison was that the resemblance “was unintentional” and Harrison said, “I knew that, I admire your work.”

On the video, the band only features four members (but Vince Melouney later joined the band), Barry playing his guitar, Maurice playing his Rickenbacker 4001, Robin Gibb on vocals and drummer Colin Petersen wears a hat.”

Jung, we treated the virus seriously and went in hard initially. Our states are coming out of restrictions independently. Some states have already opened their borders and I expect that mine will early next month. Our major sports have returned, initially with cardboard cutouts in the stands that fans can pay $22 to have their photo image on. Now a certain number of fans are allowed to attend the venues. This is mainly done by way of a ballot.

We expect by the time of the annual Nimbin festival that the numbers attending social events will be back to normal. I haven’t been to this particular festival before, but one of my Moto Guzzi club mates has a couple of times and recommends it. I plan on attending with him this year. I wasn’t serious about the MLT attending. I just think that it fits in nicely with their musical vision. However, it would be awesome if one year they were able to make it, maybe in disguise!

Thank you David. And it is awesome as expected. Ray Davies would be impressed!

Yes, LOL David. He got in ahead of our wonderful MLT. I can’t wait for their YouTube video release Friday (it’s already Friday Down-under)! I wonder if they got dressed up specially for the video. I hope so! Being the great actors they are, I have no doubt they could both do wonderful Lola impersonations.  I’d rather see their Lola than their “Yoda”!

I just listened to The Flemming Fold’s Cover of “I Don’t Know Birds That Well”. That’s the two young girls on vocals. I imagine that YouTube rules would apply re copyright just as they do for the MLT where most of the advertising revenue goes to the song writers.

Hi Don and welcome to the club. You will enjoy yourself as a member of the best club in the world. I am curious as to what the song was your wife sent you the link of. I still remember that first night I discovered them and was amazed it had taken me son long. The songs that got me hooked were their live video cover of “You’re Going To Lose That Girl” and their brilliant studio cover of the Hollies “Bus Stop”. What an amazing video!

Yes, great question Jacki. Personally I feel Mona more suited to that cute little owl and Lisa that cute little pussy-cat than a horrible fly.

I did watch the video Jung. If all sloths were that well groomed and clean I’d be fine with them. But that’s not the sort of sloths I’ve seen in David Attenborough wild life programs. Lisa is much too active to be comfortable being a sloth. How would she go in those country runs of hers.

You can see in Mona and Lisa’s Q&A 2 Video, they introduce their pet cat Yoko. Well Yoko looks quite similar to my Luca. However, my Luca is not as keen on you picking him up.

Reference the 0.50 mark in the following video:

To play a trumpet easily you need reasonably thin lips Jung. When I was young my family belonged to the Salvation Army and as such, all us boys had to learn to play an instrument. My two sisters had to learn to play the tambourine (known as timbrels)  and join the Timbrel Brigade.

My eldest brother was tasked with the euphonium and my next eldest brother and I the tenor horn. It is an instrument similar in sound to the French horn. My bandmaster considered my lips were too thick for the trumpet. The tenor horn is actually a lovely sounding instrument.

    The following is from Wikipedia:

“The tenor horn (British English; alto horn in American English, Althorn in Germany; occasionally referred to as E♭ horn) is a brass instrument in the saxhorn family, and is usually pitched in E♭. It has a bore that is mostly conical, like the flugelhorn and baritone horn, and normally uses a deep, cornet-like mouthpiece.

It is most commonly used in British brass bands, whereas the French horn tends to take the corresponding parts in concert bands and orchestras. However, the tenor horn has occasionally been used as an alternative to the French horn in concert bands.

    This is a tenor horn.

It seems you were correct Jung. Except that it’s the 13/12/2013 Q&A video. It goes as follows:

At the 1:17 mark. Jacki from Canada asks: “if you could be a creature/animal for a day….. what/why?!”

Mona answers something that can fly …. an eagle and Lisa replies, a sloth, then has second thoughts and says a fly. Mona retorts that she would eat flies.

Let me know if I have heard this incorrectly.

Actually I think they would be more suited to an owl and a pussy cat!

I thought Lisa said a fly and Mona responded that she would eat flies. It was not easy to pick up though with their accent and my hearing impairment. I don’t think anyone would want to be a sloth. They are filthy, smelly creatures full of all sorts of horrible parasites. Not that flies are any better!

Is an insect an animal though?

Yes Jung, that owl would be awesome. However, they wouldn’t be quite that little and cute for long and my Luca would probably find the kitten annoying at times and would see that owl as fair game. I couldn’t imagine him cuddling up to something that had feathers!

I’m not surprised if you can’t remember the poem Jacki. The Original author wrote the story for a three year old. I’m also very aware of your problematic relationship with ‘crazy’ cats! Good things come in small packages however!

That was one gorgeous Jack Russell Terrier cross of yours Neill and Kristi. A mate of mine also had one. That’s the sort of dog I’m looking for as I live in a flat and ride a motorbike (with a dog carrier), and I also have a push bike, so I need a dog that is small enough for my situation. While waiting for the right match, I adopted a cat from Pet Rescue and he is just adorable. He also has some dog like qualities and likes to play fetch.
