Not just beautiful John, but versatile and practical too. Three bikes in one – sports bike, off-roader, and tourer. You don’t need any other bike. All the power you need and all the technology you get in cars these days. ABS, adjustable traction control, engine mapping – four ways, two big disc brakes up front and single rear, easy set cruise control. It is a fantastic bike to ride, whether city riding or touring. Very long-range fuel tank and good fuel economy too. Triumph have come a long way with this bike since their first model in 2011.

May not qualify strictly for Petrolhead status, but definitely relevant. The original power standard!

    Horsepower -1.28 minute mark.

You beat me to the ‘drifting’ video Jung, as I expected from a car enthusiast, but you forgot the bike shots!

    Q&A #2 28 second mark!

John, unfortunately there isn’t video available for all of their brilliant 2007 live concert.

A belated welcome to the club John. You sound like the rest of us here. Blown away by how awesome the MLT are and wondering why it took so long to “discover” them. It’s nice to see you posting under your real name too.

You have summed up my feelings for the MLT experience well. Yes, the entire Wagner family is a constant inspiration to all of us!

Jacki, it’s a pity that one idiot has put you off bike riding. I guess it would have been a very traumatic experience for you. I don’t like being a pillion on bikes. I like to be in total control as I know all the things that can go wrong and you have to treat all car drivers as though they are out to get you! Defensive riding is a must if we want to survive!

Wow, John! You definitely are a fair dinkum bogan petrolhead! Amazing how we survive our youth. We think we are invincible and will never get old (“I hope I die before I get old (talkin’ ’bout my generation’)”. It is no wonder so many young bikers don’t survive their youth. Perhaps it should be a compulsory requirement of obtaining their bike license to be escorted through the orthopedic wards of hospitals.

As for your teenage sons, I think I understand where they are coming from. I can’t recall hearing “Born to Wander” before but the introduction at least definitely sounds like ‘elevator music’!

As for tickets, I understand. I think at times I single-handedly funded the annual policeman’s ball! I lost my license once in the early seventies (car license) and had it suspended several times later when I became a bike rider. Fortunately, especially since I am now retired and no longer have an over 40 kilometer return daily work commute, I have not had a ticket for several years and for the first time in my life don’t have a single point against my license!

I like your “Petrolheads Anonymous” and think maybe that should be the title of this post.

Good call David. However, I guess with a tune dating back to the 1700s, copyright has truly expired. It makes you realise just how difficult it must be for young composers like the MLT (at my age I’m allowed to consider Papa Rudi to be young), to come up with original tunes. Its a credit to their talent that they are able to write such beautiful original songs.

We are indeed fortunate to have them not only breathing life into old favourites for us but creating new favourites for us as well.

That’s one very nice looking machine Jung. I bet you treated it like your baby. Aren’t you sorry you sold it?

The carburetor isn’t real. This model year they introduced direct fuel injection but included the carburetor housing to keep that retro look! It was dropped in models several years later. They had two versions of the Bonneville and this was their ‘cruiser’ version. A few years later they introduced a new cruiser, the Thunderbird, which was initially 1600 cc. A great bike. Did several test rides on it but eventually decided on the Moto Guzzi Cali 1400. I also did a couple of test rides on the Triumph Rocket 111. Also a tremendous bike but at 2300 cc, much bigger and far more powerful than my needs.
