Keith and Brian shared lead guitar with their intertwining riffs. Brian was a multi instrumentalist. However, when Mick Taylor joined, being the consummate blues guitarist he was, it was as lead guitarist. Keith has always had the reputation of being the best Rock rhythm guitarist in the world. Check out their guitar work on live versions of ‘Gimmee Shelter’, ‘Honky Tonk Women’, ‘Brown Sugar’ and ‘Midnight Rambler’. I caught them at the height of their classic rock period live in Brisbane in January 1973 where they played those numbers plus ‘Street Fighting Man’ and ‘Sympathy For The Devil’. A night I’ll never forget.

In fact, if you’re looking for a good sampling of their best live work, check out their live album, ‘GET YER YA-YA’S OUT!’, mostly recorded at Madison Square Gardens in New York City in November 1969 during their tour of America. This was their first tour with the recently instated Mick Taylor on guitar. It is arguably one of the best concert recordings of the rock era and it was also the first tour on which the band were introduced each night as ‘the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band in the world’, having been dubbed that at the Hyde Park concert in July 1969.

There’s a stellar version of Robert Johnson’s “Love in Vain” and a wonderful chugging boogie on Chuck Berry’s “Little Queenie” featuring Ian Stewart’s piano playing. Speaking of which, Lisa and Mona could do an excellent cover of ‘Little Queenie’ no doubt!

Well Lisa has shown us what she can do with George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Brian Jones and Dave Davies riffs, so I wonder how she would handle a Mick Taylor riff. Mick Taylor is the lead guitarist on ‘Wild Horses’ from the Stones “Sticky Fingers” album. He was formerly guitarist with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and replaced Brian Jones as Rolling Stones guitarist in 1969.

Mick Taylor is a highlight in the following live version of ‘Dead Flowers’ (also from Sticky Fingers) from the Marquee Club in 1971. Also note the pumping bass from Bill Wyman and the rock steady beat from Charlie on drums!

I know it’s a tough call but I’m sure that if anyone could, with her dedication and determination, if she wanted to, Lisa could pull this one off! So put on those headphones and turn up the volume – you’re in for a treat!

Exactly Jung. They are that ‘true ray of sunshine’ in our sometimes very ordinary lives and provide the positive ‘orange’ sweetness to balance the negative ‘clockwork’ in our lives.

I understand Papa Rudi wrote this for his own band and modified it for MLT. I guess it would have come from his own desires to escape the clockwork of corporate existence and go it alone. Something he has managed to achieve through his adorable and equally talented daughters.

We are so fortunate in having Mr Wagner’s talent and creativeness as the genesis of this extraodinary journey we are all now a part of!

Well I’ve just lost some brownie points missing that MLT one Jung. My list wasn’t meant to be definitive. Here are some more:

The Allman Brothers Band: ‘Ain’t Wastin Time No More’
Tony Orlando and Dawn: ‘Knock Three Times’
    Peter Gabriel: ‘Big Time’
    Eagles: ‘Wasted Time’
Paul Young: ‘Every Time You Go Away’
    Prince: ‘Sign O’ The Time’
Led Zeppelin: ‘How Many More Times’
Poison: ‘Nothin’ But A Good Time’
    Michael Jackson: ‘Remember The Time’
Culture Club: ‘Time (Clock Of The Heart)
    Asia: ‘Only Time Will Tell’
    The Guess Who: ‘No Time’
    Platters: ‘Twilight Time’
The Beach Boys: ‘Time To Get Alone’
    Joe Jackson: ‘Got The Time’
    Daft Punk: ‘One More Time’
    The Cars: ‘Good Times Roll’

And you all probably think this of me:

Styx: ‘Too Much Time On My Hands’
    Eagles: ‘Wasted Time’ and finally,
REO Speedwagon: ‘Time For Me To Fly’

Yes Jung, you ar certainly becoming the go to guru on all things Beethoven and maybe Einstein too! I don’t know where you get them from but keep them coming! As for your poem and the question of ‘Time’, I’m really embarrassed I forgot to mention MLTs ‘One More Time’. I’ll have to remedy that in another Topic about ‘Time’!

Sorry Jacki. Didn’t mean to offend. I know you aren’t competing with anyone and I do enjoy your work.

    Nicely done Jung.

Just one thing though. I may be missing something, but isn’t this a contradiction –
    “It’s the love that lasts
    As nothing good ever lasts”

    But isn’t love good?

And on a personal taste note, “Seasons come and seasons go” works better for me.

Great effort. Good to see someone giving Jacki a challenge for the title of MLT Club ‘poet laureate’.

Also good to see MLT providing so much inspiration for all of us, both lyrical and music wise!

The Beatles have written/recorded much about love, from “She Loves You”, “And I Love Her”, “P.S. I Love You”, “It’s Only Love, “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away”, “If I Fell”, “Words Of Love” (Holly) to “All You Need Is Love” and “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.” (Abbey Road).

I also just love your old fashioned pocket/fob watch and fountain pen photo. Would look perfect on my mantle piece!

Much has been written about time. In the mid sixties, the Stones were singing “Time is on My Side” and by the mid seventies they were singing “Time Waits For No Man”. We also have Pink Floyd’s “Time” and Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time”.

Excellent piece Tomás. We are certainly fortunate that the MonaLisa Twins have selected the path they have and that Papa Rudi and Michaela have backed them all the way. Robert Schumann may have a point as the MonaLisa Twins truly ‘shine out like a shaft of gold when all around is dark’. And yes, I did pinch that from Monty Python’s “Oscar Wild’ sketch!

  • Yes Jung, and beautifully juxtaposed in the scene from the movie “Amadeus”, in the video following, with the frivolous Mozart showing up the serious Salieri. Unlike Mozart, Salieri had to work hard for his art.

  • “But what most of you guys in this thread refuse to understand and acknowledge, despite how I assured you in it 100 times, is that not ALL of the countries do it like that, and not ALL of the songs at the ESC are like that! No, no, no! They are not. There is real music too!”

I think you are reading far too much into my posts Itso and are way too sensitive. I accept that as you state, not all countries have the same ESC participation rules and that not all songs are the same formula. I was merely informing club members of the latest Australian rules as I had previously mentioned them as an example of a country MLT could consider. Believe me! I understand and acknowledge what you are saying. Our only real point of difference is that some of us (including Lisa), believe that even if they were able to get a song of their own included without any limitations on their artistic integrity or copyright ownership etcetera, they would still not want to be a part of the ESC in the same way that a Beatles or Bob Dylan would not want to be a part of such an event.

“I seriously should stop wasting hours and days of my life and my sleep, for trying to explain things to people, who refuse to listen and understand what I am saying.” This is most unfortunate Itso as in fact we have always been listening to and understanding what you are saying. Therefore your repititions have been wasted. The only unresolved issue is the one I stated in my previous paragraph and on that one we’ll just have to agree to disagree on. Or as Jung so cleverly puts it, you can be Bach and I’ll be Beethoven!

“Mike Triba was right”! Yes he was. In the same way that you and he are ABBA and I am the Rolling Stones. I can accept that but unfortunately Mike has problems with anyone who doesn’t share his passions. Consequently he has issues with MLTs ‘alleged’ views of ABBA. This is unfortunate as I can accept that ABBA were formidable song writers and performers without having to be a fan. Just the same as I can accept that you are a fan of ESC but you (and maybe Mike) seem to have trouble accepting that I’m not.

We are never going to be able to convince some people to be fans of something just because we are. So regarding the ESC, we are just going to have to agree to disagree. Now I’m sure a Mozart could come up with an appropriate tune to finish on a positive note, but unfortunately a Mozart I am not!
All the best. I do appreciate your contributions and respect your formidable European knowledge, even though sometimes we may disagree. “That’s Life”. Enjoy it while you can!

  • Okay with me, as long as I can be Mozart!

  • This is what it takes to win a Eurovision entry from Australia folks!

SBS announced a new format to select Australia’s representing artist and song for the Eurovision Song Contest.  For the 2019 competition, SBS and Tourism and Events Queensland launched Eurovision – Australia Decides – a live contest open to aspiring songwriters where a jury and the general public will vote for their favourite performer. Songwriters across Australia submitted an original composition as part of the selection process via sbs.com.au/eurovision

Following is a synopsis of media reporting:

“Favourite Kate Miller-Heidke and her outstanding song ‘Zero Gravity’ have claimed the honour of representing Australia at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Israel in May. A Eurovision fan since childhood, Kate wrote the song specifically for the competition. She sang the stunningly staged number while wearing a seven-tiered, eye-popping skirt while a dancer in black swayed and swirled on a high pole. Pure Eurovision!

But the real impact of this year’s live show is bigger in some respects than Eurovision itself by showcasing Australia’s song-writing talent – 10 amazing songs from 10 amazing performers. Ironically, many were discovered on shows like XFactor, where they were shoehorned into singing covers.”

  • And so say all of us Rich!

My commiserations to you and your friends for their loss.

Good music and good food are my favourite two passions in life (you can add a glass of red wine or two to the food). As they say in the classics, ‘If music be the food of love, play on’ (Twelfth Night, 1602).

Lisa, you and your equally adorable and passionate sister deserve our gratitude for the joy and value you add to our lives. No matter what dark clouds may be on the horizon, you always introduce a little ray of sunshine and pleasure into our mostly quite ordinary lives!

Your Dad & Michaela have taught you well. Hoping you are feeling the good vibes from around the world, while you enjoy the highlights of Eurovision from a distance.

    Your number one Australian fan,

    Howard
