Lol… The things we thought we heard when listening to songs… Sometimes, I find myself singing the misheard stuff… It’s funnier…. But it does make more sense when one properly hears a song… Also, sometimes it’s one’s voice that makes it hard to distinguish what’s being said on top of the instrumentation, as I have hearing issues a little, I can attest to this theory….

Lol…. Though I was a child in the 70s, teenager in the 80s, some 70s music wasn’t all bad, I cringe more at the colours schemes and most of the fashion themes of the time. I did like some of the disco stuff as I love to dance and sing, but I agree not all disco stuff was cool….
Funny how I found many years later 2 instances where in the 70s 2 particular songs I loved but didn’t realize who sang them at time ( the significance of these 2) until I became really into their music and started researching their music past…. Lol… Vince Gill and Cass Elliot… Yes, Cass’ song ” If You ‘re Gonna Break a Heart” (well she didn’t originally write it-just changed the lyrics slightly to suit her), I had not realized the significance of that song until I had bought a CD of Cass solo stuff and I was listening to it, and then…. Eureka… That song came on… Bingo the familiar bells of my 70s childhood came back music wise… With Vince Gill, it was the song he sung when he was with Pure Prairie League that stuck out for in the 70s-“Let Me Love You Tonight”… Lol… Fast fwd years later, when I got into Vince Gill music, and was doing research of his past music wise… Eureka moment struck again…. Lol… So as I see it, as a child, I seemed to pickup on liking good music and best singers… They both made an impact on me from the 70s and I’ve always enjoyed Manas and Papas too. I do enjoy though Cass’ solo stuff, her and Michelle ‘s backup vocal efforts on Denny’ s “Waiting For A Song ” album…. That’s my 2 cents worth for this particular forum topic…

A few of the Canadian comedic gems from TV I grew up with were that of: Willy & Floyd, Don Harron’s Charlie FarQuharson character, You Can’t Do That On Television, Wayne & Schuster, Air Farce, etc…
As for UK Comedy:
On The Buses, After Henry, Fawlty Towers, Are You Being Served, Benny Hill, The 2 Ronnies, Mr Bean, Birds of a Feather, Keeping Up Appearances, The Last of Summer Wine, The Vicar of Dibley, Upstairs – Downstairs, Father Ted, Monty Python, etc.
For USA comedy:
All in the Family, Laugh In, The Jeffersons, Good Times, Seinfeld, Whose Line Is It Anyways, Facts of Life, Different Strokes, Carol Burnett Show, etc
There’s more shows probably I enjoyed on all 3 categories here (Canada-UK-USA), just can’t recall all of them but these ones stickout, especially Willy & Floyd and YCDTOT, and Carol Burnett Show

I was kind of a tad young back in the day when I had watched Monty Python in the 70s/80s, and got to understand some of the Humour at the time but not until I was a teenager and seen Holy Grail, then it all made sense… Also having an older bro who enjoyed MP stuff would fill me in what I didn’t get… Lol… It’s classic comedic genius in my opinion…

Yes these miniatures are cute and I lije your merch idea Jung…. Lol
-
Yes Jung, I would say so… Definitely Not Depeche Mode (never liked their stuff myself, before Glass Tiger entered my world I was a Duran Duran fan)… At least to my knowledge none of the GT guys are into Depeche Mode… Beatles, other rock bands are more their style….. How you came to that notion from their songs I have no idea… Lol… Way off base… Lol…. They had Rod Stewart on their “My Town” song doing guest vocals, The Chieftains on “My Song”, Alan(GT’s slead singer) had Micky Dolenz on one of his songs from his first solo album outside Glass Tiger and Bryan Adam’s did sing on “Don’t Forget Me” and GT’s current CD out, has a nice lineup of Canadian talent guest vocal – ing on songsand got Julian Lennon to sing too on the CD.. Alan did a nice cover of “You Got To Hide Your Love Away” on his last solo CD

Wow, Jung… I’m surprised you did not know Glass Tiger were Canadian…. There are one amongst of being of Canada’s Iconic bands…. I’ve been a fan/friend of theirs for basically half my life…. Lol… They know me well. Before they were known as Glass Tiger, they were formerly known as Tokyo and before that, half the band were in their own other band while the others were in their own band, they met up and formed Tokyo. They were a bar/club band… They are awesome live. I prefer their live stuff… Their later /recent stuff is more their true style, roots in music.. Sure “Don’t Forget/Someday” are their hits but really it’s their other stuff that defines them more… The keyboard player did some nature CDs years ago, the lead singer has had a couple of solo CDs out, the guitar player has a solo CD out, the bass player has a great business going, portable backyard observatories (astronomy), their original drummer left the band yrs back to do his own stuff. Great bunch of guys, down to earth. Make awesome music they do. Both MLT/GT are my faves in music first and foremost.

Yes Howard, that was the link about Ottawa being the Northern version of Liverpool…. Lol… And that’s the name of DVD too, you’ve done your research in depth!!
-
I agree David… Lol… I forgot about Kids In The Hall…. Guess I never really watched much of that show… Yes, Sesame Street, Electric Company, Romper Room, Polka Dot Door, Mr. Dress up and The Friendly Giant were part of my childhood TV memories….
As for BBC TV Channel, I think there is one for Canadians but not sure as I said, I don’t have cable TV…
-
As I’ve said Howard, I was young kid in the 70s, teenager in the 80s, didn’t always Get the Humour when I was young unless my one older bro explained it to me, and to be honest I wasn’t even aware of this gem…. Again, we did not have cable TV in our house until early-mid 80s…. I’m going to now have to subscribe to whatever MP channel you got this one from and any other MP gems to watch… It’s been ages….

Like Jung said Trooper was huge in Canada, though I like their music, can’t say same for the band, (at least 2 members of the group) as I met them once and 2 members were jerks, leaving at that…
The Tragically Hip are another Iconic Canadian band.
I had previously posted recently on the forum a link about Ottawa being North version of Liverpool for it’s music scene in the 60s, etc.
Also I had just read a book about Canada’s Rock n Roll History… Some bands I was aware of while others not, and as said, many had to get noticed outside Canada before being sought of in Canada afterwards…. There is a DVD out there but I borrowed a copy from public library awhile ago-Shaking All Over (I think that’s the title), about the Canadian music scene in past/recent times-recent as in the time the DVD was made. I still am a fan/friends of/with Glass Tiger band. Not sure how many of the earlier bands in Canada are still going with exception to Guess Who/Burton and Randy or how many band members from those bands went on to solo and/or new bands thereafter, or even still living…. Lol

Well Thomas… Count On Me for being also a fan of Mr Bean and Benny Hill and other UK comedies… On the Buses I grew up watching….

Funny Howard… Good one … EH?! Enjoyed that I did!!
