Great bikes Howard. I’ve always wanted to try out the Triumph Tiger. I rode a Bonneville 650 back in about 74 when I burned up my second engine on my Chevelle. I think the Bonneville was about a 68. Kind of a fun bike. Just slightly chopped in a “British Way.”
I’ve had about a dozen bikes. The only screamer I’ve had on the street was my V65 Honda. 0-60 in “what the heck was that!” High 10’s in the quarter mile. Only pushed it once when I got a call that my son couldn’t be found near a busy street. My hair is still blown back from driving home from my office. No pictures. Gave it to my son a while back because it looked too sad just sitting in my garage. The Goldwing and Outlander 4×4 kept it company though. Had to make some room for a new toy – a 68 Corvette.
Possibly one of the saddest things about the 70’s was the in-accessibility of cameras, so I only have one picture of my beloved 70 Chevelle. “Hugger Orange” with Thrush side pipes, black vinyl top, a tricked out Corvette LT1 engine and flared fenders to hide the M50 tires that were about 16 inches wide to attempt to give me some traction. Have only been in a dragster that had that kind of horse power. OHHHHH the tickets….. the cost…. ouch.. But a lot of fun. I feel so bad for my neighbors. One told me he could tell me coming miles away, but that was better than me flying by on one wheel on my motocross bike. I lived about a half mile from the mountains and miles of trails.
The one picture is because we had a record snowfall (nothing like Edmonton – but huge for here.) In the winter time I usually threw studded truck snow tires on the back to get up the canyons in search of moguls or powder.
Amazingly I lived through all the car adventures on the street, but have nearly rolled jeeps in the hills a couple times. Had three lucky (not so lucky?) calls on the bikes. Cool helicopter and plane rides in life flight though. Intensive care kind of sucked and slowed me down for a while. The crashes were other people twice and a pile of logs jumped out and attacked me once. Had nothing to do with me coming into a corner at about 60 on a dirt bike 🙂 “Too soon we grow old – too late we get smart.” I learned to be cautious in the dirt and pure 100% paranoid on the streets. I just assume I am a deer and it is hunting season. The reason I most like the V65 was about once a week the power got me out of a situation where someone else was about to clobber me.
So yes. Welcome to Petrolheads Anonymous. I’m John and I’m an addict. I’m a speed addict. It’s been about 20 years since my last ticket. It’s been 48 years since I’ve broken a bone or caused an avalanche skiing. About 45 years since I’ve gone off a cliff on a motorcycle (not on purpose) or jumped off one on skis on purpose. If I get upside down these days it is playing with grandkids, not doing flips on skis.
Oh and Howard. LOVE the “Sons of Arthritis” shirt. Hadn’t seen that before. Not ready to laugh about my arthritis too much yet, but I know I did what it took to create it.

Thanks for the “Driving Test” episode Jung. Between that and the mad drummer I found today I’ve laughed to tears. I guess I’m a little late to the party on Taxi and some of the viral videos – ok – most of them.
We’ve been talking about “Covers” for the last few days. I don’t care what song they cover, but we do need Mona to cover the drums in this way 🙂

Yes. I love Mona’s harmonica. We need more!
Interesting. I have never heard of “Cortez the Killer” before now. Kind of a Carlos Santana vibe to me. Would love to hear Mona and Lisa’s guitars rock to this. Their cover of “Samba Pi Ti” still amazes me.

Not sure if it’s been suggested before. Just listened to “Heart of Gold” by Neil Young. WOW. Mona and Lisa could do a fabulous job with this.

Thanks for sharing that Howard, that is a great song. This thread is real interesting in finding new songs and bands I didn’t know before. I’m surprised that the UK music scene was so different than the US in many ways. Looks like not everyone joined in on what we call the “British Invasion.” Lots of bands that don’t seem to have made it over here. Others surprised me that they were British bands that I assumed were from the US. We missed out on some great music and are grateful for what made it across the pond.
Whether the twins look at any of these songs as covers, my playlist and interests grow each day. Thanks for all those contributing and sharing songs and their history, etc.
While I was typing YouTube rolled to G. Wayne Thomas’s “Open Up Your Heart” which is a great song too. He has a good voice and the lyrics on both songs are interesting. Then YouTube rolled to “The Traveling Wilburys.” HOW did I miss that until recently? A friend played a song from them in his car a few years ago and I didn’t quite catch on. I didn’t know it was the all star band of some of the best that ever have been. Then, it rolled to “What is Life” by George Harrison that might make a great cover too. I didn’t fully appreciate George’s vocal abilities until recently.
I took another look at that 1400 MotoGuzzi yesterday. That is a beautiful bike. All the perks of a good touring bike but looks like it could get up to cruising speed real quick. We rarely see them in the US. At least in the rockies anyway. Is it a pretty popular brand down under?

Here’s a couple more I think could be beautiful covers. “Baby Now that I’ve Found You” was first a hit by the Foundations in 1967 and later a hit by Alison Krauss in 1995.
”Never My Love” by the Association.
“Never My Love” is a pop standard written by American siblings Donald and Richard Addrisi, and best known from a hit 1967 recording by The Association. The Addrisi Brothers had two Top 40 hits as recording artists, but their biggest success was as the songwriters of “Never My Love.” Recorded by dozens of notable artists in the decades since, in 1999 the music publishing rights organization Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) announced it was the second most-played song on radio and television of the 20th century.[2]
“Cherish” is a pop song written by Terry Kirkman and recorded by The Association.[2] Released in 1966, the song reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in September of that year and remained in the top position for three weeks. Billboard ranked the record as the No. 2 song of 1966. In Canada, the song also reached number one.
And of course just about any song of Carol King or Carol and James Taylor, like “You’ve Got a Friend”. Which also brings to mind “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Simon and Garfunkel.
Of course one of the best songs I may have ever heard – “Imagine” by John Lennon.

I’m not always known for patience so I went to Wikipedia anyway. I guess we are lucky the song wasn’t called “Cockroaches are on my mind” as Wikipedia says.
“You Were on My Mind” is a popular song written by Sylvia Fricker in 1962,[1] in a bathtub in a suite at the Hotel Earle in Greenwich Village. She wrote it in the bathroom because “it was the only place … the cockroaches would not go”.
I’d forgotten it was a number 3 hit for “We Five” also. It looks like many people have covered it and had hits. The one I don’t see is Sonny and Cher, so my brain must be giving out. Oops.

Wow Howard you have a broad range and knowledge of music. I’d bet you have an LP and or CD collection that would make radio stations drool. I appreciate all the songs and artists you mention. Some are new to me, some are songs I’ve known and loved but have forgotten or didn’t know the artist. You’ve made run to Wikipedia several times. Perhaps I should have just asked “Howardpedia.” I don’t think i’d heard of Crispian before now. Was he from or more of a presence in Australia? Then one of his videos had a Sonny and Cher hit of “You Were On My Mind.” Did they cover him or vice versa?

So much for my proofreading. Yes, “seen the rain”. Guess My days as a writer are truly over.
Funny, I was just listening to “Mr Tamborine Man” moments ago. Like everything in that concert – it’s great and so impressive for that age – or any age. I hesitated to mention doing another version of anything, it’s just that I know it would go from amazing to spectacular. I just downloaded “Any Dream Will Do” a couple days ago (Donny’s version) It would be great too. I hadn’t heard the Jason Donovan version. He has a great voice. Thanks for sharing that.
One more Beatles song I’ve grown to love “Words of Love” would be towards the top of my list. After tonight I’d also have to add one of my favorite songs ever to the list “Here Comes The Sun.”
Just watched “Yesterday” tonight. Excellent and funny film. I couldn’t help but relate. I am so grateful to Mona and Lisa getting me reacquainted with The Beatles again. I literally had kind of forgotten how much I loved their music and they brought it back to my world and made it brighter like in the film. They made it live again and introduced me to a number of songs I either had never heard or had overlooked. A few of The Beatles songs that were not high on my list have become favorites due to the beauty, joy and excitement that the twins put into them. Starman is another example. I was never much of a Bowie fan and probably wouldn’t have listened to his version a second time if I had heard it. Now I love the song – the MLT version.

That Moto Guzzi is awesome. I’ve heard they are great bikes. Reliable and very well made. Went the Goldwing route myself for touring and a V65 if I feel like getting somewhere very quick or just blow dry my hair. That Hobie Cat does sound fun! Just not sure it would pull me water skiing 😉 I guess from the day I got my dirt bike and skis I became obsessed with speed. The touring is nice though. Feet on the highway pegs, crank the stereo, hit cruise control, lean back and watch the scenery (and bugs splattering on the windshield). Now I can really turn up the stereo and listen to the MonaLisa Twins. I’ll probably need to print up a card with their website and YouTube channel for when people say “Wow, that’s amazing, who’s that?”
So, to actually contribute to the topic of discussion finally:) I love your suggestions here for cover songs and for whoever mentioned “Summer Song” by Chad and Jeremy.” Also, I love the audio version Mona and Lisa did of “The Night Before” by the Beatles. Would love to see that in a video. Most anything by Credence, especially “Have You Ever Heard The Rain”, “Who’ll Stop The Rain” or even “Fortunate Son.” I’ll bet Mike Sweeney would love to help belt that out.
I really love the incredible talent of the first concert the twins did, but would love to hear a version of “Love is All Around” by the Troggs with their mature, enhanced, beautiful voices or a version of “I Will.” The twins may not want to revisit past songs and videos, but the songs are so good and Mona and Lisa are so good!
For another Beatles – at least George Harrison – song I think they could do a beautiful version of “If Not For You” by Bob Dylan. It has a great melody and words. George Harrison did a cover of it a few months after Bob Dylan and then Olivia Newton-John did a cover a few months after that. Olivia’s version hit number one in the US and in the top ten in many other countries. Not sure about the previous two. There’s a little bit of a country flavor to Olivia’s version, but George’s is more rock. There are some good versions of George Harrison’s cover on YouTube and an Olivia Newton-John version where someone put a lot of effort into enhancing the quality. I’ve really come to love both versions. I didn’t know George’s voice was sooooooo good.
Two more come to mind. Alison Krause did a great cover of a Keith Whitley song “When You Say Nothing At All.” The MonaLisa artistry could really do that one well. Another song might seem out of their normal era and genre, but the message and words of “As Long As I Can Dream” by Expose done with Mona and Lisa’s beautiful voices and harmony would be wonderful. So there’s a few of my dream cover ideas.
I love the twins original music, but I keep remembering it was the cover songs that led me here. Not just that, but they are so good when Mona and Lisa put their magic to them. I read a few comments on their videos last night, and like me, it seems many people love their covers, because of their respect for the original and yet their special touch that adds a special beauty. My favorite comment was that “So much talent couldn’t be contained in one person so there had to be twins.”

Happy Birthday Richard! Cool cake. Tell Katie she did great!

Rudi, The screen Jacki pointed out is the exact same one I have been getting. It comes up with the password already in. I’ve tried that and typed the password directly and even reset the password. When the password is entered at that screen, it just comes up with the same screen. Same result on Windows 10 as Ipad. I have cleared the caches on both multiple times. Some searches go through and seem to work ok. Multiple word searches seem to be where it locks. Not a big issue and don’t mean to be a pain, just verifying the issue that is happening. I’m in the Western US, Jacki is in Canada and Howard is in Australia, but I don’t think that is the issue. It could be some kind of “permissions” issue where it works for your login and not for general?

I love the retro look of your Bonneville. I always thought Triumphs were the best looking bikes and was glad to see they kept that iconic look.

That hits on my favorite cartoon. One of Gary Adams “Far Side” gallery books has a section on rejected or controversial cartoons. In one a couple open the door to the view of a figure at the piano and she says “Shhh… Beethoven is decomposing.”

That’s always been one of my favorites! John B(ehle). It was nice to have a song to kind of make up for the incredibly common name at the time. Not a sloop person though. More of a speedboat kind of personality. Tried sailboarding once and the wind died and trapped me in the middle of a lake at sunset. I like engines 🙂
