I just came across this video, and I think this gets to the heart of the Beatles greatness. It’s hard not to raise a few goose bumps watching this.

And wait around to the end where Paul talks a little about that magic when it comes to music. How fortunate we are for the special few like the Beatles and MLT that can create music among us.

Here is one of my fave Beatles performances. Love John Lennon’s vocals especially on this one.

Actually Howard, they are singing Dig It which is not a Dylan song. It is a short track on “Let It Be”. I was just echoing in a light hearted joking way what you said on another post where you stated you prefer Dylan songs sang by others better than Dylan. I never mentioned anywhere I didn’t like Bob Dylan’s singing, but I do like John’s voice better.
Edited to add:
Dig It lyrics has a part where it says “Like A Rolling Stone”, and John tries I think to sound a little like Dylan there.

Here is a delightful Beatles studio practice session with Paul’s kids and the band. When you see this, you wonder why they ever broke up. We get to see John sing like Bob Dylan too, and John does it better.

I love the photos with Martha sitting there in between John, Paul, George and Ringo. Would have loved to hear what they said to Martha. Having been a dog owner, hearing such a sweet song Paul wrote for his dog is quite heart warming. And the song has quite a nice tune to it kind of in the line of “When I’m 64”.

I’ll have to check out “From the Hip” John. Maybe one weekend I will have to do an 80’s movies indulgence weekend. Yes David I remember War Games. Ally Sheedy was great in it too. Glad to see Matthew Broderick still doing things. It seem very few of those actors/actresses from those time continued their careers after those 80’s movies. Tom Cruise and Matthew Broderick it seems are the only ones still going.
It would be very interesting to see what the really old generation think of the Beatles, or do a “reaction to the Beatles” in a country or place that have not heard of the Beatles which is most likely impossible. I have a feeling songs like Hey Jude, Yesterday, Let It Be, Something will immediately resonate with anyone. Those melodies cross genre boundaries and are timeless I think.

Hi Paul, thanks so much for sharing your guitar photos with us. They are beauties indeed! I like the dark burgundy/maroon look of your middle custom guitar there. It sounds like a one of a kind and you endowed it with everything that makes it sound special I bet. Your acoustic guitar, has an impressive name “dreadnaught”. What characteristic of the guitar does this cool name refer to? Anyway it’s great you have the know how and skill to be able to customize your guitars like that. It must make the experience of playing them that much more special on one of your customized creations! 🙂

Howard, aren’t we fortunate the Beatles stopped with the acoustic guitar and the 4 of them did not start singing like Dylan too. ?
But seriously the mutual admiration and rivalry made them each expand their musical horizons, trying new and different things pushing each other up. That is the artists journey.

Hi John. I think like yourself my exposure to Beatles was rather limited to their well know hits and songs off their Blue and Red albums and Sargent Pepper. MLT opened up a whole new Beatles world I never knew existed from lesser known gems from the many Beatles albums.
Ferris Buellers Day Off conjures up so many of those early 80s movies of my late teens and early twenties. Do you remember St Elmos Fire, Breakfast Club, Risky Business, Pretty In Pink, Weird Science….All those actors from my generation: Matthew Broderick, Tom Cruise, Emilio Esteves, Rob Lowe, Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy, Judd Nelson….Great memories.

In the Elders react to the Beatles video, loved some of the reaction comments:
Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds: “I get goose bumps man!”
It’s Getting Better: “Boy! How did they know?..What genius got inside their mind, and hooked them up?”
A Day In the Life: “This is the one!!! This recording could be a hit any time”. “It’s not negative things coming out of their mouths. It’s just good music!”
On Sargent Peppers Album: “…I liked the fact they made me think, and experience something new.”

Indeed David. Sometimes the wisest words come from kids. It must be their innocent and honest undistorted view of the world.

I remember Lisa when Waiting For the Waiter was released, it was the very first original song since I discovered you all. I knew all your covers and all the songs on When We’re Together by then, so to hear a brand new original was so incredibly fabulous. It was also very different from anything we heard previously as it was a blues song. Loved your passionate singing, and the lyrics were brilliant. It was mysterious and took many, many listens to figure out the underlying meaning. It was a good thing that first preview video, in advance of the album Orange release, was a lyrics video which made it easier to listen and analyze. The lyrics are brilliant indeed as are all the songs on Orange. They all have an inspiring message, which is another reason the album is so remarkable.

Here is how kids today react to Beatles music. You would be surprised with some of the answers when asked at the end if they like Beatles music better than pop music today.

Hi Howard. You didn’t dis anything, I should have been more sensitive when talking about legends like Bob Dylan. No disrespect intended. 🙂

Wow David, I can feel that electric atmosphere in the way the audience sings along with Paul “GOT TO GET YOU INTO MY LIFE!!!!”
