Thanks so much Jacki!  An absolutely brilliant musical work of art like MLTs Starman can only move and inspire!

In the words of Salieri, it’s Sublime bliss, “absolute beauty.”

Roger, and here is a picture of a brand new Baldwin acoustic almost like mine in all it’s glory again.  A beautiful instrument:

    Baldwin upright

I use to enjoy opening the lid and just admiring all the craftsmanship inside when I first got it.  It had a beautiful black glossy wood finish, and it still does.  In need of a good tuning though.

Howard, no doubt digital is the way of the future with everything from music, movies, books etc all digitized into ones and zeroes and saved as files on servers and smart phones, but CDs/Vinyls, and Books seem to be surviving and embraced by a small but strong following.  Thank god for the surviving books stores where you can go in and still hold a hard bound book in your hands and enjoy.  Nice pens are making a small come back too in the last 10 years with major brands like Montblanc, Lamy, Cross, Parker, and Pilot thriving with a small and growing niche market.

Jacki, my hand writing has always been on the messy side, often nothing more than a chicken scratch compared to some of the pretty hand writing other kids were able to do, but I am glad I maintained it over the years.  Hand writing calms and soothes me at work sometimes, as I draw up a design or plan by hand, on paper and pen.  It helps me to organize and collect my thoughts and ideas. I often fall back to it days, or even years later, and it’s all  there.  All my detailed hand written notes I take at meetings and from phone calls have saved the day and helped tremendously over the years.  The flexibility of digital is great, and I agree it’s great we have both forms available for communication.

Hi Jacki.  A Lilac shade of purple painted room sounds like it would be pretty inspiring and groovy.  After reading these articles about color, a wondered what a red room would be like.  A friend of mine had an apartment with one wall painted red, and it looked nice I recall.  I have all my fountain pens filled with green ink for work.

    Winter Silhouette

    Winter Silhouttes – by Mona

    An MLT Starman inspired poem:

    Starry Night

    Sometimes in my life,
I would look up at the clear night sky,
    In wonder and amazement.
    Where does the universe end?
    Is there life out there?
    Endless questions,
    Curiosity never satisfied.

    The light reaching my eyes,
Traveled thousands, if not millions of light years,
And I’m just seeing it now, like a window to the past,
    And the stars I see,
May be ghosts, faded long ago.
What unknown worlds and lives are out there,
    In the vast universe?
    It’s all so mind boggling.
    It never ceases to amaze.

I remember one evening I looked out at the stars
    And thought to myself,
Where are the ones we loved and lost?
I thought about my Mom and dog Max.
“Where are you both, I miss you”,
    I whispered gently.
At that moment 2 shooting stars,
    Streaked across the night sky.
    I cried.

    The starry night sky,
    beautiful and mysterious.
I yearn and long to know it’s secrets.
Maybe one day to be revealed,
But today, I wonder in amazement and awe!
MLT’s Starman, reminds me of that awe and wonder.
What a remarkable song and video.

    Thank you team MLT!

While re-recording an original song in German might not be something you want to do, I wonder if throwing in some German words or phrases in a new future original song might not be fun or interesting.  Kind of like what you did at the Cavern with She Loves You.  I don’t know if it’s just me but some rock songs sound great with a little German mixed in.  I remember in the 80s there was Nena with 99 Luftballons, and Falco later with Der Kommisar, and Rock Me Amadeus. They sounded great and they became massive hits in the English speaking world. Aufstehn is a good example from your 2007 concert.  I don’t know what you are saying in the German parts, but it sounds awesome when mixed in with the Engish parts.

Hi Roger, well while we are on the topic of pens, here are some of my writing instrument, that to me are works of art anyway:

Well said Roger, I couldn’t agree with you more.  There is something so very personal and special about receiving a hand written note these days with the words and thoughts physically formed by the writer by pen and ink on paper.  I know Mona and Lisa appreciate that given the recent hand written lyrics and beautiful hand drawn sketch art work with pens they do.

Some special moments deserve to be signed off on in a ceremonial way with a nice pen and ink.  It’s some how more physical and real than a digital text on a phone or computer.  You are making a real physical mark.

Hi Mike.  I agree, it is one of their best works.  For me “Starman” is MLT’s Starman, because I honestly never heard this song before, and like you I don’t know David Bowie’s repertoire too much.  This song, like their brilliant “Best Years of our Lives”, and very classically done”Little Drummer Boy” covers just goes to show how truly remarkable Mona and Lisa are with any genre of music they decide to do.  Their talent they honed and developed over the years is truly powerful as their latest “Starman”, “Once Upon a Time”, and “Still A Friend of Mine” videos attest.  I think it’s great they are expanding out into other genres of music, as their brilliance is truly shining.

Roger, I guess every nice guitar comes with baggage (pardon the pun), but the good kind.  I collect fountain pens of all sorts, modern, specialty, vintage (have one from 1915), and some of the elegant case/boxes they come in is part of the experience.  Some in nice wooden boxes with elegant inscribing and velvety plush interior lining.  It’s not like a cardboard box that smartphones come in these days, but in elegant cases made with care, pride and attention to detail.  Works of art like musical instruments.  In high school I took band for a year and I had to rent a trumpet.  It wa so beautiful I remember, all shiny and its customized elegant case.  Something special.
