The Duo sessions is one of the best part of the MLT club.  The latest “She’s Leaving Home” sends shivers.  The singing is just so moving and beautiful, so much feeling expressed in their voices by Mona and Lisa.   Had to capture a beautiful moment from that song here.

A Monday morning MLT joy moment

    She's leaving home

Lisa’s vocal highs are just magnificent as it carries you into the heavenly fluffy clouds, just as it did in Little Drummer Boy.

A warm welcome Angelo.  It sounds like you live in a wonderfully beautiful place, the French Alps!  It’s great to have you here!

Hi Michael.  The Gretsch White Falcon is a supremely elegant instrument in white.  Love the names Gretsch give their guitars.  Duo Jet, Country Gentleman…

Thanks for sharing Tomas.  The Gibson J200 Celebrity you have is indeed a rare bird being #24 of only 90 others like it in the world, and the fact you are in the company of the likes of David Gilmour of Pink Floyd among one of the other proud owners of that exclusive 90 makes it even that much more special.  Are you glad you came up across this one instead of that Martin D-28?  I bet this one will remain in your permanent collection forever.

Hi Howard.  You welcome, and Brian and Rachel Goulet are one of the best online fountain pen resources on the net.  I’ve spent hours learning so much from them about all things fountain pen, and their online shop is awesome.

If you want to catch a glimpse of the MLT Lamy Safari, here is a Facebook GIF they posted a couple of years ago.  I assume this red one is Lisa’s and the white one is Mona’s.  I was new back then and didn’t realize Mona’s color is yellow, but I think the white pen looks elegantly cool anyway as does the red.

    Hi Howard, Jacki

I get all my fountain pens online.  Amazon.com (Amazon.ca in Canada) is a good source.  A very reputable online pen store is Goulet Pens

These pens were produced since 1980 so if you look carefully, you can find all the colors you mentioned Jacki and much more.  Some Pen Stores I see in Ottawa are:  Wallacks 231 Bank, Paper Papier 18 Clarence.

For people new to fountain pens, I usually recommend an extra-fine (EF) or fine (F) width nib, as the lines run much broader with fountain pens than what you might be use to using ball pens.

Hi Howard.  I would highly recommend getting into fountain pens and hand writing in a nice journal.  I work in a sometimes high stress environment, and slowing down, and being able to collect my thoughts by handwriting a plan and a solution in my work note book calms and soothes me and makes me more effective.  I think similar to playing music, writing is another form of expression of your thoughts and feelings and the actual physical act of hand writing, forming the words is more effective than typing on a keyboard.  See my other post in the MLT Merch thread.  I would recommend a LAMY Safari fountain pen to start.  There are a lot of good value quality fountain pens from this brand Lamy, as well as Faber Castell.  Some of the more upscale brands like Pelikan, and Montblanc make some good fountain pens as well.  You will notice they are all German brands.  Cross also makes some good fountain pens too.

Here are my top favorite fountain pens.  These ones are all in sterling silver.

Hi Howard.  Thanks for those kind words.  I guess I am a little passionate when it comes to pens, especially fountain pens.  My mom I remember always had a nice pen in her purse and remember bottles of ink lying around, so years later I guess that made me appreciate them even more.  My recommendation for a good starter fountain pen would be the Lamy Safari.  In the fountain pen community, this pen is quite legendary and there is quite a following for this pen and brand because it is so well made and designed, affordable, and writes as good as the highest end fountain pens.  Another reason to get this one is because Mona and Lisa have them too, a white and a red one.  🙂

Back when I first discovered Mona and Lisa and their wonderful music and youtube videos, I sent them a couple of these pens just to express my gratitude for all the joy and comfort I found in their music, as I was going through some hard times too after my mom passed away a year earlier, as well as losing my best friend Max (9 years old German Shepard) to an illness.  When I saw the wonderful art Mona created with one of those pens recently, it  really touched me and made me so happy too.  I’ve never seen something so wonderful created with a fountain pen; I was blown away when I saw this.   Thanks Mona and Lisa!

I have 30 fountain pens, but only really make use of 5 or 6 of them for their different uses, and 1 or 2 of them are my pride and joy I use all the time, and might even show off with on occasion.  The rest sit in a nice cherry wood box 24 pen case display shelf to be admired.  There is a law of diminishing returns after about 10 fountain pens.  Acquiring any more did not bring as much joy as the first 5 or 10.

If I had 3000 guitars, it would be similar for me I think.

As for instruments, I have my 25 years old Baldwin upright acoustic piano, and a newly purchased Casio digital piano that is waiting for me, and there is a 30 years old Casio keyboard with a lot of electronic accompaniments that one of my nieces borrowed indefinately.  I haven’t quite reached the law of diminishing returns with pianos yet, so I can see adding a few more as my future piano lessons take off.

Your dad Rudolph is one awesome cool pianist!  I was so thrilled to see him lead off with that concert pianist scene in the video of this song.

It always makes me smile when I see those drawings “Lisa” by Mona and “Mona” by Lisa.  Just reminds me of the kind of sibling love and affection Mona and Lisa must have for each other.

You welcome Jacki!  I think a purple Lamy Safari will be gorgeous.  I know they came out with a special edition one called “Dark Lilac” a few years ago, and if you search the net, I am sure you could find yourself one.  🙂
