Howard, it’s easy for me to come up with a few songs, but you are like a walking music library.  Just heard The Guess Who “No Time”.  Haven’t heard that one in a long time, what a gem it was!  Thanks for digging these up to enjoy!

Another great 60’s tune that doesn’t have “time” in it’s title, but is all about time is the Byrds “Turn, Turn, Turn”.

Wow Howard, that’s an impressive list.  I got to dig out the Kinks “where have all the good times gone” for a listen.

I thought of another MLT one.  “Once upon a Time”, and Beach Boys “Good Timin”.

It’s pretty amazing the craftsmanship and know how that goes into crafting a quality guitar.  Conditioning them in a room full of speakers playing music to them,  storing them exposed to music, 150 year old rose wood.. wow.  It’s not unlike pianos where makers like Steinway and Bosendorfer in order to create the right sounding sound board use only wood from trees grown in very specific places in the world, and then they store the wood in climate controlled rooms for years just to get the perfect age and condition.

I gotta layoff these quotes, but I couldn’t resist.

    Beethoven about guitars

I never would have guessed guitars existed even in his day.  I wonder what kind of strings he used?  🙂

Thanks Jim for the detailed explanation.  Makes sense that it wouldn’t make much difference in the electric guitar.  It was interesting read about how Donovan suggested sanding down the guitar to the Beatles and they did it to their guitars, but not sure if they continued doing that with all their guitars after that.  Certainly wouldn’t have made a difference with their electric.

I lost interest in pop music after the early 90s and got into classical until discovering MLT 2 years ago.

I never associated Grammys to the great bands like the Beatles, Beach Boys Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, Led Zeppelin etc.  Always remember these more soft rock or jazzy mediocre bands touting Grammys back then.

Just curious, does sanding down a guitar like the Beatles did give a better sound?  Anyone try it?  I guess the logic around that would be by  removing all that heavy varnish and paint it would help the body breath better and I suppose produce a richer sound.

Today’s music industry/record labels and the associated awards institutions like the Grammys and a host of others are pushing entertainment and not art.  It has nothing to do with whether the music is good, so long as it can be marketed and rake in the $$$.  So all the mainstream music all kind of sounds the same and uninspired, and it’s getting worse every decade.

Good news is there may be a slow awakening for good music styles from the past as the current population gradually get fed up with the downward spiraling trend of modern pop music.  Talented bands like MLT can bring good music back independent from the status quo music industry machine.

Jacki, agreed.  Your very frequent creative output of poems and pictures, really inspire, and make me want to create more, so thank you for that.  It’s all for the mutual enjoyment of our creativeness which is wonderful.

Thanks Howard.  In regards to the contradiction I was thinking of the joy and love as feelings and memories of those lasting while nothing good, relationships, good times etc, never lasting, but I can see your point.  Perhaps if I modified it slightly to clarify joy and love as feelings and memories, it would be better.  Will clean it up.

After I did the poem, “Time is on my side” by the Stones actually came into my head.  The Beatles, Rolling Stones, MLT etc who are true artists, no surprise sing about love, time and all those things that matter the most and inspire.

I have a few “skeleton” mechanical pocket watches like the one in the picture.  I have one from 1909 that still keeps time and is like looking at history.  The intricate mechanical watch movements really fascinate me.  It’s kind of like a small scale model of our universe the way the planets, solar systems, galaxies, as well as at the sub atomic level too of molecules, electrons, protons, particles etc all move relative to each other keeping time in essence just like the balance wheel, springs, gears, levers, jewels etc that make up the watch movement.  Everything is so extremely delicate in the balance like life itself.  If any one part is off, everything comes to a halt.  It’s amazing how everything works when things are properly fine tuned in our lives as well as in watch movements.
