The railroad seems to be the preferred means of travel here in this topic when it comes to wanderlust ????. Maybe you can think of some nice songs that have to do with the theme of railroads?

Wow David, 10 hours train ride. I already thought the documentation „Timelapse Of The Future“ in January was a challenge (7 hours and 49 minutes), but this time you really pushed me to my limit (But a few pots of coffee and some snacks „Schnittchen“ and everything was okay). ????
But now once seriously. Thank you for the railroad video from Norway. Touring the charming countryside there by train is certainly a great experience (There is or was a TV station in our country that broadcast such train journeys in real time at night). When I saw the video, I spontaneously thought of the Glacier Express in Switzerland. Probably one of the most beautiful and impressive railroad lines in Europe. The Alpine landscape in Austria is already awesome, but the Swiss landscape can still somehow top that.
PS: unfortunately, the stream you posted is no longer available. It worked for two days, then youtube blocked it for us, too bad.
PPS: there is a beautiful IMAXX production (“Rocky Mountain Express”): the film is about the construction of the railroad line from Vancouver to Calgary by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company. Beautiful landscape shots and a great sound (best with subwoofer). When the steam locomotive blasts steam out of the pistons or races through tunnel passages, your pant legs will flutter. I like that.

Hi Pascal,
thanks for posting that. I’m not a very big Stones fan (it must have something to do with Mick Jagger), but I really like Paint it Black by Mona and Lisa. This is one of their cover versions, which for me personally is better than the original.
But Tom is right: that the stones are still rolling is remarkable. Apparently there’s more to a long, fulfilling life than just eating fruit and doing lots of sports. ????

Hi Diana et al.,
I also tried something once, well…
Honey (That’s what I want)
The early morning
I was watching TV
you put it on your toast
or let it be
They call it honey
Refrain:
That’s what I want
(it sticks like hell)
That’s what I want
(sticks bit by bit)
That’s what I want
That’s what I want
The golden stuff gives me a thrill
but it sticks if you won’t or will
Now give me honey
Refrain
Honey should not
run into your shoes
if it does
you really feel the blues
Now give me honey
Refrain
Honey don’t sticks
everything, it’s true
what honey don’t stick
is out of use
Now give me honey
Refrain
Well now
Give me honey
whole lots of honey
Woh yeah you know
I eat honey

The song may only fit the topic to a limited extent, but it’s beautiful. My favorite REM song:

A song about a beautiful “rose”, which can be found only in a very special place:

Yes and a sad one too. Thanks for posting Tom. I saw the filmed biography of Johnny Cash in the cinema (Walk the Line). His life was not always sunny, but I still sometimes wonder how he came up with the lyrics to his songs. There are some weird things described in his songs.
What’s about this one?

Yes JP, sugar mountain is a very touching piece of music. A nice metaphor about growing up and also maybe the loss you always experience in life and yet also a little comfort:
It’s so noisy at the fair
But all your friends are there
And the candy floss you had
And your mother and your dad
I still have the album “Decade” in my music collection. This music has accompanied me since my youth. I haven’t listened to it for a long time, but when I do it’s almost like time travel for me. Back to the time when I was maybe 14 or 15 years old. I didn’t know then what it would be like to leave the Sugar Mountain. But I already had an inkling.

(sorry, icons without text does not work. I forgot).

So you’re a poet too, Tom. I thought so right away. ????

Yeah David the hairstyles and the clothes in the video are really hot. But it was an uncomplicated time. My parents took me to a clothing store and they just bought me clothes that I liked. No branded clothes like today. Something comfortable and practical. I never liked going to the hairdresser. Whenever he asked me what my hairstyle should look like, I liked to say: somehow shorter. And that’s how my hairstyle looked as a child: sometimes shorter, usually longer. When I see today’s kids all styled up, with their expensive brand-name clothes and the latest hairstyle trends, I often think: poor kids, they’ve lost their innocence to the clothing industry so early.
As for music videos, I feel the same way as you: sometimes I don’t know that there are music videos for certain songs. As I have already written, there were very few TV stations in our country that broadcast music videos. Today I just have fun googling for old songs and watching the videos. This is often very entertaining.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful song Jung. Simon and Garfunkel are two absolutely exceptional musicians for me. Some of their songs I knew as a child without knowing who even wrote them. El Condor pasa is one of this songs. They have a feeling for beautiful melodies and often managed to reduce them to a minimum: only the sound of their voices and their guitars. Without superfluous ballast and frills. Music as pure essence. I once bought a CD of the music duo Parrish & Toppano. These two artists had a talent similar to Simon and Garfunkel, but for me personally they never reached the genius of Paul and Art.
BTW, I have found two nice quotes on the subject of the sea. Maybe you already know them. The puns they contain are difficult to translate. I’ll give it a try anyway:
„Nicht Bach! Meer sollte er heissen: wegen seines unendlichen, unerschöpflichen Reichtums an Tonkombinationen und Harmonien.“
– Ludwig van Beethoven –
(„Not Creek! Sea he should be named: because of its infinite, inexhaustible wealth of tone combinations and harmonies.”)
(„It is said that Johannes Brahms was walking on the beach with a friend who complained that all good music had already been written. ‘Oh look,’ Brahms said, pointing out to sea. ‘There comes the last wave’.“)

Thank you for the song by Queen Diana. (I hope you are well). The group has written a lot of groovy music, but “Don’t stop me now” has a special mix of dynamics and elegance. One of my favorite Queen songs. I also have a good mood song here:

A nice idea Tom, but I think M&L have more important things to do at the moment. I hope that their new album will be ready soon and I’m looking forward to enjoying it then. I’ve chosen the video of the cyclist because I like the acrobatics and the body control on the bike so much (Viola Brand is a three-time vice world champion in artistic cycling). And of course also the beautiful landscape. Admittedly, the Dirndl (that’s the name of the traditional dress she is wearing) and the houses seem a bit cliché, but there are really beautiful and dreamy places in Austria and also in Bavaria like this.
